Buckingham Palace is Incredibly Concerned About The Increase In Cyberbullying Towards Kate Middleton & Meghan Markle

Being classed as royalty definitely has its advantages. Money, power, fameā€¦ you name it, they probably have it. But it also has its disadvantages, and theyā€™re the same disadvantages as anyone in the spotlight these daysā€¦ cyberbullying. Yep, thatā€™s right folks, even Royals get cyber bullied too!

I mean, letā€™s be honest, if you marry into a royal family, you know youā€™re about to become a public figure for pretty much the rest of your lifeā€¦ but like most of us, what you donā€™t really expect is the incessant criticism that can come from the ever annoying internet trolls. Every single photo, every interview, every video, every single BREATH they take is completely analyzed and scrutinized by people who literally do not even know you, and thereā€™s literally nothing youā€™ll ever be able to do to stop it. At all. Like, ever.

And this really couldnā€™t be any truer for two of the most currently publicized members of the royal family, not to mention two of the newest members of the royal family (not including those adorable royal kids, of course) ā€“ Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle. The two women, one of whom is married to Prince William and the other who married Prince Harry respectively, are constant targets for cyber-bullying through various social media outlets and pagesā€¦ yā€™know, despite the fact that neither of them actually reads or uses social media at all.

You may remember that when Harry and Meghan first began dating, the palace actually made an incredibly rare statement totally condemning the harsh comments directed towards the Suits actress.

ā€œ[Harryā€™s girlfriend,] Meghan Markle, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment. Some of this has been very public ā€” the smear on the front page of a national newspaper; the racial undertones of comment pieces; and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments [ā€¦]

Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markleā€™s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her. It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm.ā€

After that statement hit all the news outlets things seemed to die down a little, however after Markleā€™s father just couldnā€™t seem to stay out of the headlines himself, and the news of a royal baby on the way appeared, the bullying began to pick back up all over again. See what I mean? It is totally relentless. It also seems as though people are always much much quicker to jump on Middleton as well, with many commenting on howā€™s sheā€™s just not aging as well as she used toā€¦ Iā€™m sorry, WHAT!?

While, yes, these comments may seem a little bit below the pay grade of the royal family, theyā€™re actually, truly not. In fact, the palace monitors every single one of these comments on a daily basis, and the increasing amount of them has really started to concern staffers.

ā€œThe palace has always monitored comments, but itā€™s a hugely time consuming thing,ā€ an insider told Hello! Magazine. ā€œThey can block certain words, but some of it is quite serious. Over the course of last year, with hundreds of thousands of comments, there were two or three that were violent threats. You can delete and report and block people and the police have options around particular people. Itā€™s something you have to manage because thereā€™s no other way to control it.ā€

From the sounds of it all, it seems to becoming an actual full-time job in order to make sure that people are ā€˜playing niceā€™ so to speak on the social media pages across the board.

ā€œA lot of hours are being spent reviewing old material and moderating comments under posts,ā€ the insider said. ā€œIt follows a Kate vs Meghan narrative and some of the worst stuff is between Kate fans and Meghan fans. Arguments about who looks more appropriate, for example, that turn into personal attacks on other users. Itā€™s creating a supercharged atmosphere and everyone can join in, but what are the consequences of this?ā€

Just as the insider mentioned, itā€™s not just about the comments that are directed at the royals. Theyā€™re also monitoring fights that break out between the users who are actually making those comments! Crazy, right? Things can get extremely out of hand, as is the case whenever social media is involved, and someone has to go through and delete those nasty comments as they happen.

And you know what, no matter what you may think, at the end of the day, these two women do NOT deserve the incredibly harsh criticism theyā€™re getting on a daily basis, and those who are leaving such comments should really, really take a long hard deep look and their own life choices.

Can I get an Amen up in here!?
