‘The Greatest Showman’ Sequel Confirmed To Already Be In Production

Hugh Jackman is one of those actors where it seems like everything he touches turns to gold. Perhaps that’s not surprising, given that he is a brilliant screen actor, and also happens to have the body of a Greek god. I mean, I’m not one to be shallow, but it definitely boosts his appeal!

Since his breakthrough role as Wolverine in the X-Men Franchise, Jackman has gone on to star in a number of smash hit movies, including Swordfish, Van Helsing, Les Miserables. Now, there’s great news for fans of Jackmaniacs, as it has been officially confirmed that the Aussie hunk will return for a sequel to hit musical The Greatest Showman.

The director of the first film, Michael Gracey, has confirmed to a British tabloid newspaper that a sequel to the hugely popular musical The Greatest Showman – which is the third-highest grossing musical movie in history – is already in development.

The Greatest Showman was a highly-fictionalized account of the life of PT Barnum, the American showman, politician, and businessman. Although it received fairly mixed reviews from critics, it was a roaring success at the box office, grossing around $435 million, dwarfing its budget of $84 million.

Director Gracey told The Sun while he was over in London to support Jackman’s performance at the Brit Awards 2019: “When a movie becomes as big a success as this, it’s only natural there is demand for a sequel. So those discussions have started and we are working on one right now.”

The director also revealed how hard it was to get the original film produced in the first place.

“There were huge doubts about it for a very long time and some backers withdrew their money.”

I doubt that the production team will have that same problem with the upcoming sequel, given the huge success of the first movie. As they say, money talks.

Despite a divided critical response, The Greatest Showman’s portrayal of real-life figure P. T. Barnum won over audiences in the cinema, as well as music fans, which led to its soundtrack having a long reign at the top of the album charts.

It is unknown which other cast members will return for a second chapter or what the plot of the film will consist of. The Greatest Showman’s take on P.T. Barnum’s life was highly fictionalized, so presumably there’s a lot of scope for plot.

One thing’s for sure, though – Hugh Jackman will return, and will likely drag all of his fans (me included) back to the theatre with him!

In addition to Hugh Jackman, the first film also featured a number of big Hollywood names, including Michelle Williams , Zac Efron , Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, and Keala Settle.

Will you be going to see the sequel at the theaters, folks? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
