Former Bridesmaid Posts Hilarious Pictures Wearing Gown From 24 Years Ago To Prove She Still “Gets A Lot Of Use Out Of It”

One of the more annoying facts of life: fashion can change incredibly rapidly over the years. Something which looked incredible on you and you fell madly in love with a few years ago… can indeed come back to bite you and look totally ridiculous now (And yes I am talking about clothes, not men).

And this is never truer than when it comes too… dare I say it!? Bridesmaids dresses.

Bridesmaids dresses can get pretty freakin’ tacky or ridiculous looking when there’s a particularly bold bride involved. What makes matters worse is the fact that more often than not you usually have to fork out quite a pretty penny of your own for those dresses.

But, it’s the brides day after all. So when they hand us these awful dresses, look us in the eye and tell us “the best thing is you can shorten it and wear it again and again!” we simply need to just smile and nod while we finish screaming internally.

Because let’s face it, most of us would prefer it if those dresses never saw the light of day ever again.

Even Tammi Sauer had to go ahead and apologize to every one of her bridesmaids for the insane dresses she made them wear on her special day.

Yep, that’s right. The children’s book author and mother has been married to her former prom date, Ron, for more than 22 whole years.

And Sauer, wanting to mark the anniversary of her special day way back in 1995, thought it’d be a cute idea to post some pictures from her wedding on Facebook.

Of course, one of those pictures included the undeniably 90s gowns she asked each and every one of her bridesmaids to wear. Gowns in which she had made from a store bought pattern she had found.

“Apparently, not everyone in 1995 wanted a long, off-the-shoulder gown in a burgundy brocade fabric that looked like a Thanksgiving tablecloth,” Sauer told BuzzFeed.

“Those dresses were handmade by moms, grandmas, and random seamstresses.”

“Sorry about those dresses ladies,” Sauer had (half-jokingly, I’m sure) wrote in her Facebook post.

But Sauer didn’t have to feel guilty for long, as one of her bridesmaids said that she is still getting quite a lot of use out of the bridesmaids dress she wore at Sauer’s wedding.

Although Sauer did admit to TODAY Style that she 100 percent, honestly believed these dresses would be totally re-wearable.

“I remember eagerly telling my bridesmaids that they could just shorten their gowns and they’d have great little cocktail dresses,” Sauer said. “I don’t think anyone ever followed through on that suggestion.”

Shocking, really.

But alas, Heidi Mann of Overland Park, Kansas was eager to tell Sauer that she actually had gotten use out of her dress again.

And oh boy did she!

She has always hung on to her special occasion dresses over the years. And every once in a while, she’ll bust one out.

“Over the years, I’ve been known to randomly put one of (my former bridesmaid dresses) on, join whatever the family is doing and act like it’s completely normal to be wearing an off-the-shoulder evening gown,” Mann told TODAY.

“Of course, we all just crack up, like the guffaw-turns-silent-turns-choking kind of cracking up.”

In fact, she even decided to take pictures of herself while she was wearing it around the house doing menial tasks and share them on Sauer’s Facebook post as proof. She thought it would be pretty freakin’ funny since Sauer was so apologetic about the dresses in her original post.

And obviously because y’know, she still just gets sooooo much use out of it daily.

“The thought of someone determined to get good use out of their bridesmaid dresses by wearing them for everyday activities made me laugh,” Mann said. “I knew it would make Tammi laugh, too, so I did it.”

And honestly, it seems as though there was literally nothing Mann wouldn’t or couldn’t do in her dress1 She did laundry, watered the garden, read… even did some handy housework.

Not to mention, Mann couldn’t help but also cause a bit of a scene in the process too.

“My son took the pictures, my daughter rolled her eyes at me, the neighbors stared, the dogs thought I had lost my legs and my husband asked me why I was wearing a lampshade, but everyone had a good laugh,” Mann says.

Sauer also got quite the kick out of it.

“I laughed. I cried. I’m pretty sure it’s the best thing I’ve ever seen in my life,” she told BuzzFeed.

Honestly, if that were me, I’d just be flattered someone still had the dress at ALL by this point!
