Incredible Group Of 100 Bikers Grant The Last Wish Of Terminally Ill Veteran

It was certainly a sight to behold in Michiana the other day when more than a hundred local bikers all gathered with one another in order to arrange the one last wish for a fellow biker enthusiast and lover.

You see, Veteran Jon Stanley was tragically ill, and there’s only one last thing he wanted to do before his time was up: he wanted to hear the sound of revving motorcycles engines. That may sound like a strange request to you and I, but Jon pretty much lived and breathed motorcycles his entire life, and he had always felt a special connection with his own bike.

Sadly, the veteran was diagnosed just a couple of months earlier with both lung and brain cancer, and he was given a very little chance of survival. Tragically, his condition severely worsened in a very short space of time, and it was hard for his doctors to know just how long Jon still had left to live.

Knowing how much the biker life meant to Jon, his brother in law, Michael Smith reached out to biker David Thompson, who then helped to organize a collaborative event for bikers via social media in order to help and give Jon his final dying wish.

“I was contacted this morning about 6:30 this morning by Mike Smith through Facebook—and he informed me about Jon, you know he’s terminal, and he’s not looking really good, and one of his wishes was to hear a bunch of motorcycles out his window…” David said.

“…Sometimes a dying person’s last wish is just to hear the sound of a Harley in their window. This is Jon Stanley he has terminal cancer. I personally met with his family this morning and learned Jon is a vet and was an abate member who has [ridden] for years. This is his new Harley he just got and only rode 3 times! I know this is short notice but bikers take care of bikers! We will meet at Walmart on Ireland Rd at 6 pm and kickstands up at 6:30 tonight 6/12/20017 to ride out to Jon’s house to show him and his family some love and make some noise for him!”

Pretty darn soon, David’s Facebook post went viral extremely quickly thanks to the wonders of the internet and had amassed over 800 shares. In fact, it only took a couple of hours before literally, dozens of people wanted to volunteer their hand in helping David out to create a truly heartwarming moment for Jon.

“A lot of people think motorcycles are loud and obnoxious, but you know, we’re a big brotherhood, and we take care of each other,” David said.

Eventually, there were more than one hundred bikers who responded to the Facebook post and they all met at a local Walmart. Then after everyone had arrived, they all rode together to Jon’s place.

Liliana Ramirez, who is John’s granddaughter, became very emotional by this heartwarming surprise.

“Knowing that all this happened for one man. All he ever wanted was him and his wife on that Harley.”

Jon was far too ill to be sitting on his own Harley Davidson bike with everybody else, but his fellow bikers made darn sure that he was able to spend some time with his wife sitting side-by-side on one of the bikes, at least.

“He got to get on a bike one last time, and that was great,” his daughter Kristy recalls. And of course, Jon’s wife Brenda was also incredibly thrilled by the amazing response.

“That’s the last thing he heard, the revving, the bikes. I know he’s happy.”

Tragically, but also sort of poetically, Jon passed away later that night. However, thanks to the overwhelming kindness and support of these bikers, this veteran’s last, dying wish was able to come true.

“He heard the bikes. He heard them,” his wife says.

Truly, truly beautiful. Thanks to the kindness in the hearts of these strangers who shared the same passion as Jon did, his last memory was a beautiful one. Just goes to show folks – you can never judge a book by its cover!

Be sure to share this with your friends and family and spread the love, always! x
