‘Eggboy’ Has Attracted Over $40,000 In Donations, But Wants It To Go To Victims Of NZ Attack

In the wake of Friday’s horrific terror attacks, the vast majority of politicians in the country and around the world spoke about the importance of unity and tolerance. However, one notable was Australian Senator Fraser Anning, who put out a bizarre and controversial statement in which he claimed that the attack had happened because of New Zealand’s immigration policy – effectively blaming the victims of the attack.

The senator put out the statement on Friday, and as you can imagine, it caused a great deal of outrage. The following day, Anning was attending an event in Australia when he was asked by media to explain his comments further. As he was doing so, a young man standing behind him decided to take the liberty of smashing an egg on Anning’s head.

As Mr Anning was speaking, the teen pulled out his phone and filmed himself casually planting the egg onto the Senator’s head. The politician turned around and hit Mr Connolly twice before bystanders tackled the boy to the ground.

The teenager has developed quite a following online after his stunt, and has come to be referred to as ‘Eggboy’.

In the days since the incident, several GoFundMe pages have sprung up, raising cash for Connolly. Now, the biggest has attracted more than $44,000 in donations. Will, who says he is a little overwhelmed at all the attention he is getting, has said over that the money should go to the victim’s families of the Christchurch attack.

On top of that, a number of Australian rock bands, such as Violent Soho, have promised Eggboy that he can have free entry to their shows for life.

In the reaction to the egging, some criticized Senator Anning further for retaliating physically against the boy, who is still legally a minor. However, the senator hasn’t backed down on his actions, saying that Connolly deserved it. During a press conference, the politician said: “He got a slap across the face, which is what his mother should have given him long ago, because he’s been misbehaving badly.

“When somebody cracks you in the back of your head, you react and defend yourself.”

“That for years is what Australians have been doing, luckily they did that in the trenches otherwise we’d be all speaking German now.”

I don’t quite know how you got from being egged by a teenager to heroic soldiers fighting in the trenches, but hey ho.

On Sunday morning, Connolly shared a video in which he warned fans against cracking eggs on the heads of politicians.

Connolly said: “Don’t egg a politician, you’ll get tackled by 30 bogans at the same time, I learnt the hard way, f*ck.”

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison says the Senator should face the full extent of the law and also criticized Senator Anning for the press release he sent out.

Mr Morrison said: “The remarks by Senator Fraser Anning blaming the murderous attacks by a violent, right-wing, extremist terrorist in New Zealand on immigration are disgusting. These views have no place in Australia, let alone in the Australian Parliament.”

It’s clear that a lot of people in Australia seem to agree with that sentiment, but who can say what repercussions Senator Anning will face.

One thing’s for sure – Eggboy has become something of a national hero in the land down under!
