Hundreds Of NZ School Students Turn Out At Mosque To Mourn Victims Of Terror Attack

You will already know about the terror attack on Friday in New Zealand, in which over 40 people were killed at a mosque in the town of Christchurch. It was a horrific attack which shocked the world, and saw the community band together to grieve and to reject the hatred that had struck the community that day.

Now, hundreds of students from across New Zealand have come out in support of the victims of Friday’s horrific terror attack. The school children were gathered outside the Al Noor mosque in Christchurch, where an apparent white supremacist carried out the atrocity at the end of last week.

In a heartwarming display of solidarity, videos and photos show the students lighting candles and singing in remembrance of those who lost their lives, with some of them also coming together to perform a traditional Haka dance. – a strong Maori tradition in the country.

Historically, the Haka was used as a war dance, but it is now often used as a welcome for visiting dignitaries, as it was on the royal visit of Harry and Meghan last year. As seen at this event, the Haka also used as a display of pride, strength and unity in the country.

The students who attended on the day were visibly upset, with some of them in tears as they embraced one another outside the Al Noor, which was one of two mosques in the town to be attacked that day.

The shooting is alleged to have been carried out by Australian citizen Brenton Tarrant. It’s alleged that he live-streamed chilling footage of the attack as it was in progress. He was arrested by police afterwards. He was charged with murder on Saturday, and remains in custody awaiting trial.

Following the attack, New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has vowed to reform gun laws in the country – a move which she feels will reduce the chances of this type of attack happening again.

Speaking in a press conference on Monday, she said: “Within 10 days of this horrific act of terrorism we will have announced reforms which will, I believe, make our community safer.”

According to reports from the Daily Mail and others, some of the victims of Friday’s attack had come from as far away as Egypt, Delhi and Pakistan. Tragically, some of the victims were as young as 3 years old, with the oldest victim being 72 years old.

Authorities have said that 31 people who were present at the time are still in hospital, with nine of them described as being in a critical condition.

As you can see from these photos, the hatred of one deranged individual is far outweighed by the love and spirit of the community, who have been brought together in mourning. Even members of one of the country’s most notorious gangs were spotted consoling mourners and families of the victims.

I hope we can hold on to these positive images in these trying times. We at Aunty Acid send all our love and prayers to the affected community.
