Danea Plasencia’s family said that the procedure, which was taking place at Mia Aesthetics in Florida, had finished when the complications began to arise. According to the deceased’s grandfather, ‘then they moved her body to the stretcher, and all of a sudden, she became blue,’ in a statement made to NBC Miami.

Miami Police were called at 11:13 a.m with reports of a woman in distress at Mia Aesthetics, and Danea was consequently rushed to the hospital where she tragically died. Miami Police are now investigating the details of her death. Plasenceia had just turned 28 only six days prior, and had three children aged nine, five, and one.

Mia Aesthetics claimed that this was the only fatality they have had at the clinic, and made this statement:

“Our team is devastated by this tragedy and feels that each and every one of our patients is part of our family […] Each of our surgeons is board-certified or board-eligible by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and we are constantly evaluating our practices to ensure our patients receive the safest and best care. Despite these practices, serious surgery comes with the risk of rare, unintended and tragic results. We are fully dedicated to investigating why today’s tragedy occurred.”

The Brazilian butt lift procedure is very popular and involves fat being taken from other parts of the body and transplanted into the buttocks.

It is horrific to me that people are prepared to take such extreme measures to adhere to stereotypical views of ‘beauty’ as forced into our faces by the likes of ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’.

Society forces people into a condition where they feel that the only way to be happier in life is to conform to unrealistic body shapes, and it’s freakin’ saddening.

Plasencia’s cousin Jennifer Perez, who also underwent butt augmentation and nearly died, highlighted how the clinics do not highlight the real danger to their patients:

‘they tell you very superficially what the consequences might be, but that goes very fast and quick under the radar and all these wonderful things are said to you […] you don’t really realize that you’re putting your life on the line.’

Danea Plasencia’s grandfather Dr. Marcio Ferez (pictured below) also lamented the culture of today which he sees as exploiting women:

‘in this culture of ours, all the girls want to look very nice […] In my opinion, they are getting lured to get this type of surgery for $6,000 or more […] There is a lot of money going on. I think it’s got to stop.’

The way that society (and TV in particular) promotes certain lifestyles surely must be altered. Certain channels promote a false perception of beauty standards that cause people to feel inadequate on a daily basis. People should be able to feel freakin’ great for who they are and how they look regardless of what some overpaid person with a soft-light camera taking overpriced pictures of them thinks.

This is truly tragic, I can’t imagine what the family must be going through, I pray they get through this immensely difficult time. Do you think more measures need to be put in place to prevent these terrible fatalities? Let me know in the comments. AAx
