Senator Melaye destroyed 2 police vehicles while trying to escape – Witness to court
In the ongoing trial of Senator Dino Melaye at the FCT High Court in Apo, Abuja, a prosecution witness has revealed that the lawmaker destroyed two police vehicles while trying to escape from custody.
ASP Dennis Agbi, member of the IGP Special Tactical Squad, made this known during the “attempted suicide, attempt to escape from custody and damage to police property” case filed against the Kogi West lawmaker.
According to the police officer, on April 24, 2018, a white-coloured Toyota Hilux with Registration No. MKA 603 GY, was brought to him, to be recorded as exhibit, against the lawmaker.
The officer said on inspecting the vehicle, he found that the right headlight and a part of the bumper had been damaged.
Agbi , who said be was on duty that day told the court that he marked the Hilux as exhibit NO. CER/STS/11/2018A in his records.
The vehicle in question was also brought to court — A second vehicle, a white Hiace bus had its front right side mirror broken, and the left side back window glass, also broken.
The judge,Silvanus Orji, subsequently ordered the inspection of the vehicles and were then admitted and marked as exhibits by the court.
However, Jovi Oghojafor, Prosecution councel said that the Certified True Copy of the records of the exhibit was unavailable to be submitted in court – Asking that the case be adjourned, in order to avail him time to bring it to court.
The case was subsequently adjourned to May 16, May 27 and May 28.
