20 Fascinating Facts About Keanu Reeves That Prove He’s Cooler Than We’ll Ever Be

Ahead of both the highly anticipated Bill And Ted 3: Face The Music and John Wick 3, I thought I’d go through some of the most interesting facts about one of the most offensively nice people in Hollywood!

In case you weren’t already aware, Keanu Reeves is an unbelievable guy, here are our top 20 facts about Keanu Reeves that just get weirder and more wholesome! Oh, and prepare for a lot of Bill & Ted Gifs…

1.) He First Scored An Acting Role For Coca-Cola In The 80’s

I mean, everyone has to start somewhere I guess! However, just because it was a coca-cola commercial didn’t stop Reeves from going full Daniel Day Lewis on it, as he confessed on James Corden’s chat show that he shaved his legs for the role since he was playing a cyclist… that’s commitment!

2.) He Actually Knows Martial Arts! Well… Sort Of

Okay, he may not be a master at the craft, but he did undergo martial arts training when preparing for his role in the matrix. It’s not that much of a leap from shaving your legs to play a cyclist really, let’s be honest.

It is reported that Reeves earned a total of $110, 000 for the Matrix sequels; however, Reeves gave around $80, 000 to the SFX and make-up crew! And this wasn’t to be the only time he would do something like this…

 

5.) He Also Took A Paycut Worth Millions On Devil’s Advocate To Work With Al Pacino

Yep, Reeves sacrificed several million dollars so that the production staff could afford to cast Al Pacino! I always thought that those’d be the sort of decisions that I’d be making in life but it’s not looking likely these days.

‘Keanu’ translated means ‘cool breeze over the mountains’ in Hawaiian. I’ve no idea what my name means but I sure as hell know it’s not a freakin’ cool as that, literally or figuratively! It’s probably something closer to ‘cool glass of white wine spilt on a couch’.

 

7.) His First ‘Serious’ Acting Role Was With Rob Lowe

The film ‘Youngblood’ starring Rob Lowe features a young Keanu Reeves in a supporting role as ‘Heaver’, it was a much more significant role than the Coca-Cola commercials and required significantly less leg shaving.

 

8.) Although, He Actually Was A Great Hockey Goalie In School

 

Continuing his theme of being seemingly unable to do anything in real life that he can’t do in movies, Reeves was actually nicknamed ‘The Wall’ in his team. Is there anything that he can’t do?

In 1999 Reeves and Jennifer Symes, his girlfriend, were expecting a daughter who was tragically born too early and died as a result. However, as though things could get no worse for the star, several months later his girlfriend was involved in an automobile accident and died. It’s testament to him that he managed to keep going at a time of such tragedy and has continued to be the same great person that he still is today.

 

10.) He’s Was In A Grunge Band

Reeves played bass in the grunge band Dogstar (since disbanded) and also sang backing vocals. It’s quite often suggested that the bass player is the coolest member of a band, and though I normally don’t agree, in this instance I may be able to. The band actually supported Bon Jovi once and even managed to play Glastonbury festival… although I suppose if anyone’s gonna be able to get you in, Keanu Reeves might be able to wrangle a slot.

Reeves has been quoted as saying that when he was living in New Jersey he saw a white suit with no body or legs come into his room then disappear. He also said said to Jimmy Kimmel that the experience was ‘cool’… I think that I’d have been a little less than enthusiastic about the encounter, I’d probably still be sleeping with the light on, but Keanu has to go and just be ‘cool’ about it.

I think this one could be my personal favourite… but I’m not sure why, I think it’s the fact that for some reason I can completely picture him as a waiter and loving it, although maybe that’s just his generally enthusiastic vibe playing tricks on me! Reeves managed a restaurant in Toronto during his teenage years.

13.) He Was Recently Involved In An Emergency Landing On A Flight… But Remained Chill As Ever

Only last month (March 2019), Reeves was on a flight from San Fransisco to Los Angeles when the plane had to made an emergency landing in Bakersfield California, nearly a two-hour drive from their intended destination. Thankfully no one was injured, and many fans took to social media with reports of Reeves helping various passengers to remain calm and aiding with people to get to their destination. As if that wasn’t enough he then took time to take photos and chat to fans.

 

14.) He Loves Ballroom Dancing!

And it wasn’t me… I promise! Reeves found a woman who had broken into his home back in 2014, she claimed that she wanted to meet him and apparently he continued talking to her while he carefully called 911.

And yet again it definitely wasn’t me! Apparently, the second case, which took place just three days after the first, was much more creepy as the second woman got undressed and washed in his personal bathroom.

 

18.) He Set Up A Private Cancer Foundation To Help Children’s Hospitals

When one of his sister’s was diagnosed with Leukaemia, Reeves donated millions of dollars towards her treatment. He doesn’t brag about his charity work but he has also set up a private foundation to support children hospitals and it’s been reported that he was once found personally manning the phones on a telethon with proceeds going to Stand Up To Cancer.

Not only does he go around riding topless, something which we can all be grateful for, but he also owns his own motorbike production company called Arch Motorcycle Company which he started with Gard Hollinger.

Okay, so I lied about the ballroom dancing one being my favorite, it has to be this one! The fact that Keanu Reeves, action star, takes the NY subway with everyone else could be the most human thing I’ve seen for years, there’s even a video of him giving up his seat to a woman carrying a heavy bag on YouTube which I like to put on when I feel like I need a pick-me-up!
