Come on guys, it is absolutely no secret whatsoever that we are completely and utterly ruining our own planet. Pollution, Trash, Climate Change… we are destroying everything around us and the worst thing is is that some people are so completely in denial that they don’t actually believe that any of these harrowing reports are actually real… which is really, really scary.

You see, you may not think that using that one teensy weensy plastic fork on your lunch break could possibly cause such a massive and dramatic impact on our globe, however, when you imagine the idea that all 7.7 BILLION people in the world do as well and think the exact same thing as you – well, I think you can agree, that picture is pretty darn terrifying to think of. To put it incredibly bluntly for you all… we are currently DROWNING in plastic. And I mean d r o w n i n g.

On the bright side of things, however, it really does seem like lately there are more and more people cropping up who are interested in truly helping to save our planet simply because more and more people are aware of all the massive environmental threats around us (and which is, let’s be honest, mostly us) and the massive fact that we are 100% a big part of this awful problem.

All the inspiring stories of positive environmental movements worldwide which appear from time to time across social media, including the most recent viral trend of the #trashtag challenge, inspire us to all join the fight for a much brighter future. I mean, I hope it freakin’ does anyway!

And now, yet another attempt to fight off the sheer ignorance of a shocking percentage of people around the world, and in order to ensure there is a better tomorrow for all  is the international non-profit organization which goes by the name of Sea Shephard Conservation Society (SSCS), whose aim it is to conserve and protect ecosystems and species within all the world’s oceans by battling to absolutely tragic and unnecessary destruction of our marine wildlife.

The group have teamed up withTribal Worldwide São Paulo and DDB Guatemala advertising agencies in order to implement an utterly shocking plastic awareness campaign, which in my opinion is very, very much needed. 3D posters depict two marine animals (a turtle and a seal) tragically suffering from the horrifying consequences of our carelessly discarded plastics in order to convey an eye-opening message:

“The plastic you use once tortures the oceans forever”.

“Unfortunately, a small and thoughtless action in our daily life can cause huge damage to nature without us even realizing it. In this campaign, we aim to remedy this by reaching the largest number of people possible, bringing awareness to the fact that with small and easy steps, we can ensure that terrible scenes like these do not happen,” Guiga Giacomo, Executive Creative Director at Tribal Worldwide São Paulo, explained that this was the idea behind the campaign.

Sea Shephard truly gives us a very valuable insight into the dangerous and life-threatening impact that plastic really does have on the oceans,  and provides us with useful tips and tricks on how to reduce the amount of plastic we use in our everyday lives. They also carry out beach clean-up campaigns “Operation Clean Waves”  ALL around the world. Not to mention that they do all of this while working with actual scientists on making a bigger change daily.

“Scientists warn that in 2050 there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish in the sea,” informs the Sea Shepherd founder and president Captain Paul Watson, “Sea Shepherd is committed to preventing this from happening – because if the oceans die, we die.”

Truly shocking, right folks? Let me know about your plastic habits – are you conscious of your impact on the planet at all? Please let me know in the comments, and don’t forget to share this with your friends and family in order to help spread even more awareness!

Remember folks, we only have one planet, and it’s our responsibility to take care of it for future generations to come, no matter what our beliefs may be!
