Pixar’s Latest Short Is A Heart-Warming Story About An Abused Pitbull And A Stray Kitten

We all know Disney, and we all know Pixar. ALL of us. We also know that tear-jerking, feature-length animated films aren’t the only things that Disney Pixar are famous for. They’re also famous for tear-jerking animated shorts, too.

Well, get your tissues ready folks, because they have 100% completely done it again with their newly released, heart-wrenching short film which is absolutely guaranteed to hit you smack bang right in your fragile emotions. Seriously, if you’re feeling slightly a little more emotionally fragile than usual or are going through a particularly sensitive time right now… you may want to save watching this one for later.

This new short film is called Kitbull, and it tells the sad but sweet tale of the forming of an unlikely friendship between a teeny weeny stray black kitten and an adorable Pitbull dog that is very obviously being abused (remember what I said about those tissues!?).

It tells the story of the dog’s abuse, which from what I can gather from the short is based around the fact he’s being used in illegal dog-fighting matches, and then his wholesome journey towards recovery. During his journey, he manages to form a friendly bond with he little alley cat he ends up sharing his… well, alley, with. The animation is undeniably adorable, however in true classic Pixar style, it also manages to tell a very important story too.

The Pitbull is owned by a cruel, pathetic excuse of a human being who constantly keeps him chained up outside surrounded by a barbed wire fenced “garden”, and the poor creature spends almost all of its life chained up to a concrete block outside in the alley. As mentioned before, it becomes pretty darn clear quite early on in the short that this dog’s “owner” is beginning to train him to fight other dogs… possibly more.

He is also kept chained up outside whatever the weather, whatever condition he is in. You even see him being tossed outside in the rain after obviously getting pretty torn up during what I’m guessing is a fight he’s being forced to take part in.

The film was actually created as part of Pixar’s SparkShorts programme, which is the brainchild of Rosana Sullivan (a Pixar animator) and was then realized by director Kathryn Hendrickson. It tells of an “unlikely connection that sparks between two creatures” who are both living in absolutely horrendous and difficult conditions.

As the story continues on, we see how the cruelty towards the poor dog gets amped up each time. It’s being forced to do something it doesn’t want to, it’s never shown any affection, and it’s left to deal with the horrific injuries that are inflicted upon him all on his own. The saddest thing about this short is that this pretty much happens all too often in reality and is not just the stuff of a made-up animated short. Because of this, it has led to the Pitbull breeds of dog entirely garnering a false reputation for being an incredibly aggressive and violent breed of animal.

But remember folks; there’s literally no such thing as a bad dog… just really, really bad owners. Which, as you can tell, the owner depicted in this short is undoubtably that.

Things seem pretty freakin’ bleak for these poor defenceless creatures, however there is a touch of light at the end of this cruel tunnel. You see, both the cat and the dog eventually become the best of buds, despite understandably initially being a bit weary of one another.

After all, a teeny tiny cat is pretty likely to be scared of a big large dog until it gets to know it a little better. In the end (and honestly, if you aren’t bawling your eyes out at this point then you truly are a heartless monster, in my humble opinion) – the Pitbull manages to eventually escape the clutches of his wicked owner with the help of his new tiny feline friend, and the pair are both able to make a happy ending out of a truly awful situation.

It truly is enough to warm your heart, and I promise you, if you haven’t already seen it, suffering through the initial pain is totally worth it to get to the ending.

This short film was first shown on February the 18th, but since then has been viewed more than 8 million times. 8 million! I mean, it’s easy to see why, too. Not only is it an incredibly important message, especially in today’s society, but it’s also darn freakin’ adorable too!

Well folks, what do you think? Isn’t it amazing? I’m already on my 200th viewing to be honest. Don’t forget to share this with all your friends and family to not only spread the cuteness, but also the ever-important awareness! X
