‘Maurice Kamto’s Arrest’: Cameroon Sends a Warning Message to the United States

The Cameroonian government has sent a message to the US authorities concerning the release of Maurice Kamto, the president of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement MRC. On RFI, Donald Trump, US Under Secretary of State for African Affairs, Tibor Nagy, said the arrest of opponent Maurice Kamto was political.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Communication, Réné Emmanuel Sadi spokesman of the Cameroonian government, it is reported that Cameroon denounces the words of Washington and that these words denote a misunderstanding of the issues, realities and facts. ”  A serious impulse to interfere in the internal affairs of Cameroon,  ” said the statement.

The Cameroonian government reiterates that the opponent is in detention for acts of common law. For Yaoundé, the arrest of Maurice Kamto is legitimate.

In a recent interview with RFI, Tibor Nagy, the US Under Secretary of State for African Affairs, spoke of the arrest of Cameroonian opposition leader Maurice Kamto. He said his arrest was political and that it would be wise for the Cameroonian authorities to release him.

”  Because, whether true or false ,” says Tibor Nagy, ”  he is perceived to have been incarcerated for his political activities and that is unacceptable.  The American who also encourages the Cameroonian authorities to be more serious in the management of the Anglophone crisis.

Tibor Nagy is expected in Cameroon on March 17 and 18. He will discuss with the Cameroonian authorities the problem of the arrests of various political leaders, as well as the problem of respect for human rights in relation to the Anglophone crisis in the North West and South West regions.

With regard to the situation in the north-west and south-west regions, the government promises to make every effort to preserve the country’s territorial integrity, as well as the security of people facing ”  secessionist rebels out of the country. the law which sows terror and desolation, committing unspeakable atrocities which no one can tolerate.  “
