Kitten Born With Two Faces Stuns Her Owner With Her Will To Survive

As most of you will know by now, I’m a huge fan of all things fuzzy and cute, and I truly belive there is a special place in Heaven for those who go out of their way to look after vulnerable animals.

In December 2017, a cat in South Africa gave birth to a litter of three kittens, and the cat’s owner was shocked when they saw that one of these kittens was born with two faces.

The little kitten had four eyes, two noses, and two mouths. The owner rushed the kitten over to a vet, and the vet told her that the kitten had a condition known as craniofacial duplication. These cats are also often called ‘Janus cats.’

To the owner’s dismay, the vet told the owner it would be best to put the kitten down, because her condition meant that she had a very low chance of survival. Despite this, the rescuer refused to give up on the kitten, and took her home with her to do her best to give her the best start in life. She named the sweet kitten Bettie Bee.

Over the next few days, Bettie Bee showed an incredible will to live. The little kitten was nursing well, and started crawling around with her siblings as they did.

The kitten’s human mom was so happy to see the kitten doing well, and decided to start a Facebook page dedicated to the kitten, where she posted regular updates.

“She is thriving, growing like a normal kitten,” the rescuer told Newsweek. “She has been to the vet when she was one day old. We decided it’s best to take her back for scans etc when she is a bit bigger.”

After a few days, the moment that every cat carer looks forward to – the little kitten opened her eyes for the first time. Around the same time, her middle two eyes began merging together.

The rescuer shared a sweet video of little Bettie Bee crawling around, and it quickly received thousands of views. It’s not hard to see why – she really is the most adorable little thing!

I can’t get enough of that squeak!

When Bettie Bee was 10 days old, her mom weighed her on the scales, and reported that the kitten weighed around 200 grams, which was right where she was supposed to be at that stage in the growth process.

Sadly, when the kitten was 16 days old, she developed pneumonia. The little kitten fought as hard as she could, and her rescuer also did everything in her power to save her.

Sadly, Bettie Bee went beyond the point of no return. The rescuer took Bettie Bee back over to the vet, where she passed away peacefully. The little kitten didn’t live long, but her 16 days of life on this earth were filled with love and affection.

The rescuer decided to keep Bettie Bee’s Facebook page up after the kitten passed away. She explained why in a Facebook post:

“Thank you for all the messages and comments. I will not delete the page. Will keep it up for people who still want to come see her pics and videos.. Maybe even to bring awareness to other special needs kitties who need help.”

You can visit her Facebook page here. Rest in peace, Bettie Bee.
