There’s A Petition Going Around To Sell Montana To Canada For 1 Trillion Dollars And The Comments Are Hilarious

Thes days, it’s nothing strange to see a petition or 9 floating about on your timelines. Most are often for very serious causes, important issues that are going on in the world. Sometimes, however, you come across a petition that is so ridiculous, you can’t help but support it.

It’s certainly no secret that petitions do indeed have the power to change the world, or, y’know, someone’s actual life. However, most of us still can’t help but shrug, scoff and roll our eyes whenever we see someone post and share and try to rally around for signatures on their social media pages. Mostly, it’s because most of these thousands and thousands of petitions circulating around the inter-world usually have causes that are either completely, utterly ridiculous or not inspiring enough to take a couple seconds out of their day to sign it.

Which is why it’s kinda nice when a petition surfaces that is so completely ridiculous, so outrageous, so hilarious that we can’t help put click it and sign that thing with all and every name we can think of.

Well, this petition I’m about to tell you about is 100% no exception to this rule. I give you; The petition to sell the state of Montana to Canada… for 1 Trillion dollars.

This amazing petition was created on change.org (so they really will let you create petitions for just about anything these days). It’s titled “Sell Montana to Canada for $1 Trillion to eliminate the national debt” and has very recently (and very unsurprisingly) has recently gained a lot of attention from the wonderful people of the internet.

The petition seems to have originated on Reddit as a joke, however, as with most jokes that start out on the internet, it slowly began to gain traction as people started to sign it… and better yet, left hilarious (and fairly accurate) comments for the whole world to enjoy. Thank you, internet!

The original author of this incredibly creative petition has summarized their brave claim by saying;

“We have too much debt and Montana is useless. Just tell them it has beavers or something,”

Which… to be fair, is pretty freakin’ true. And it’s honestly about as serious as most people believe it is. In fact, even those funny Montana locals expressed their support and jokingly asked everyone to sign it so that they are able to move to Canada without actually having to endure any moving costs. Hey, it’s all in the name of fun, and where is the harm in that, right!?

This person has an excellent point… I mean does anyone actually have any proof that Montana exists? It would be the scam of the century!

All I’m seeing here is positives! After all this how could Canada NOT want to buy Montana?

Oooo throwing Wyoming into the mix? Too? It is the DEAL of the century! And I’m sure Canada would welcome Hannah Montana in with open arms! Because… well, who wouldn’t Canada welcome in with open arms?

I love that so many Montanans (y’know, all 7 of them) have basically got their bags packed already. They are ready to officially become Canadian. Is it too late for me to move to Montana so I can join them!? Asking for a friend…
