Shelter Throws Wedding For Inseparable Senior Dogs So They’re Adopted Together

Dogs? Amazing. Weddings? Amazing. A Dog Wedding? …Someone just better come and BURY me because I have DIED AND GONE TO HEAVEN.

No, this is not something I had a dreamed about last night (although I have, indeed dreamed about such an event many, many, many times in the past). No no. Thanks to the incredible staff at the Kennebec Valley Humane Society (KVHS), my wildest, most magical dreams have now become a reality.

You see, the staff at KVHS understand how important it is to honor a special bond, and to keep a union between two kindred spirits together, so when they realized that two of their beloved shelter dogs were desperate not to be separated, they did the ever-so-sensible thing of doing everything within their powers to make sure the two stayed together.

The loved-pair – who are two senior, mixed-breed dogs named Jack and Diane – were joined together in holy matrimony earlier this month by incredible the staff at the KVHS animal shelter located in Augusta, Maine.

This wedding of the year was initially held in a bid to make sure that these two devoted dogs were kept together until the end of their happy days, if and when it came time for them to be adopted. The staff figured that marrying the pair would be the ideal (and most fun!) solution, due to the fact that nobody in their right mind would want to force a divorce on an adorable couple of loved-up, newly-wed canines, obviously.

Can I get an amen

The dogs have actually been together since the day they were found. Both Jack and Diane were found together in a cemetery way back in August last year, with their leashes cruelly tied together (Did I ever mention how much I hate people?). The staff noticed straight away how close these two were (for, y’know, obvious reasons) and they soon began to understand just how inseparable the pair were as they would both snuggle together ‘for hours’.

Stevanie Roy, who is the director of operations at KBHS, told the HuffPost about how ten-year-old Jack is very laid-back and is mostly motivated by doggy treats, however, and most importantly (In ANY kind of relationship) he is a true gentleman towards his forever partner, Diane.

Watch the video of this heartwarming story below:

Stevanie continued to say that Jack ‘sacrifices all toys and comfy beds for his lady, keeping chivalry alive’, (sounds like a lot of HUMAN men could learn something from this freakin’ pooch!) whereas Jacks lady, seven-year-old Diane ‘seems to be the boss’  in the relationship. You go, girl!

Stevanie then went on to say:

“[Diane] always gets super excited when getting reunited with Jack, and is always found doing a little dance when she sees him coming towards her.”

Apparently, all the staff members at the shelter ‘have always called them our old married couple’, and so they decided that they should just make the union official and hold a real wedding for the pair. Because why the heck not!?

And that is exactly what they did.  Complete with confetti, witnesses and of course, a little doggy for the bride and groom to recites their woofs on (sorry, not sorry!). And Jack and Diane both seemed more than happy to enter into the ritualized, beautiful institution of marriage!

Complete with an angelic veil for the lovely bride Diane, and a very dapper bowtie for the handsome groom Jack, Diane was walked gracefully down the aisle before the ceremony was officiated by one of the staff members at the shelter. The newly-wed pooches (and of course, hard-working staff members) then enjoyed a cute, intimate pizza party for the reception afterward.

The thing is, Jack and Diane have actually been adopted once before, however they were then returned to the shelter after their adopters  ‘quickly learned that they would be a better fit in a quiet retirement home’, according to Stevanie.

Hey, so they enjoy laying around in a hazy cocoon of love, they ain’t such a bad thing, right? It just makes them even more adorable!

And so, the shelter is now looking for the perfect potential adopters who may be able to give these newlyweds the quiet, homely life they’re looking for. So if you’re interested… or know anyone who may be, you can contact KVHS right here!
