10 Weird (But Amazing) Things That Can Happen To The Female Body
It’s a renowned fact (or at least, should be by now) that women are 100% superheroes. Our bodies are changing constantly, like, constantly, and every time we look in the mirror we look a little different from the day before. Don’t even get me started on the miraculous changes our bodies go through basically every single day of our lives. It is WILD.
So wild, in fact, that in Ancient Greece, women were actually considered a completely different species from men entirely due to how different they were in both their bodies and virtues. Luckily, these days, many thoughts and opinions about women have changed and, thankfully, evolved… however, there are still many many mysteries which surround the innermost workings of the female bodies.
1. Morning sickness is good for future moms.
Okay so as much as we may not enjoy going through it, scientists from the University of Colorado have found that morning sickness is actually a coping mechanism, which helps the fetus to avoid toxins from things such as fish, meat and the poultry that the mother may consume. Also, if you do happen to get morning sickness, then it could very well be the sign of a strong baby, seeing as according to the ‘Quantity Review of Biology’, women who go through morning sickness have considerably lower chances of miscarrying. So in other words, if you’re currently suffering through morning sickness… suck it up!
2. Women are really good at hearing high-pitch sounds.
Apparently, from a very young age, women are capable of recognizing really high-pitched noises. In fact, a one-week-old girl can pretty much already tell her mother’s voice apart from that of the cry from a different baby. This is a skill which is not only useful while taking care of a baby… but it is also useful when people are lying to you – women can catch the slightest change in pitch of somebody’s voice when it’s being caused by lying and can indeed call people out on it.
So men (or, literally anyone else who wants to risk lying to a woman) beware!
3. Females are “brainier”
While, yes, the male may actually be bigger, it’s females who show about 3% better results during intelligence tests.
That, and the ability to successfully multitask is caused by a difference in the structure of their cerebellum. This area of the brain is found to be bigger in females and has around 30% more nerve connections in it than male brains do!
So take that, men!
4. The X chromosome is a part of a good immune system.
According to the scientists from Gent’s University, it’s the X chromosome which is responsible for you birthing out a baby girl packs the most micro-RNA, and this, in turn, strengthens the immune system of the baby and also lowers the risk of cancer.
5. Women get through sicknesses more easily.
Maya Saleh from McGill University Research Centre on Complex Traits has found out that estrogen, which we all know (or at least should know) is more present in females than it is in males, is the stuff responsible for suppressing the inflammation process… which basically means that women’s bodies are able to deal with illness faster and easier.
Estrogen has also been shown to slow down the aging of the body, meaning that we’re (as in us lucky, lucky women) are more likely to live longer too. Go us!
6. PMS symptoms come and go with age.
Unsurprisingly enough, females are way more likely to experience PMS symptoms during their early teens and after their 40s due to the fact that those are the years a female body goes through its biggest hormonal changes. Symptoms of this may include (but are absolutely not limited to):
- Headaches
- Skin changes
- And joint and muscle pain
Man, it sure is great being a woman.
7. Women are biologically wired to spot alpha-females.
Biologically, females are more predetermined to get along and “keep the peace” within a group than males are (although I know it may not seem like that most of the times… especially for me!). And so, an alpha female is pretty much there to be the conductor of social behavior as well as a peacekeeper. But the question is, how do women spot an alpha female if there’s an absence of a power struggle?
Well, in a group of women, (and bare with me, I know how ridiculous this sounds), their shoes are usually pointed in the direction of the alpha. They easily pick up various cues which are dropped by the alpha and even subconsciously laugh the same amount of times as she does.
8. Breasts are not the same on every person.
Ladies, be prepared to breathe a sigh of relief! Because I’m here to tell you that there are an extremely small amount of women out there in the big wide world that actually have the same sized breasts (no, really!) since more often than not, one is usually larger than the other. In fact, no part of any human body is perfectly symmetrical. Unless… of course, they’re surgically modified, that is.
9. Arousal is all the same for the female brain.
So, in the female brain, the same part of it will “light up” on an MRI scan in cases of arousal by, let’s say the females’ partner… as well as that of the arousal caused by thinking of food, which, if you ask me, makes 1000% sense to me. It’s even more so visible when a woman has a food craving during her pregnancy.
10. Birth control affects physical attractiveness.
Another thing that has been scientifically proven is that men are usually driven towards more fertile females even if a child is not a goal within their relationships. And how do men figure out which exactly are the “more fertile” females? Well, they pick it up from scent and other various biological tendencies.
In other words; birth control actually lowers a females attractiveness since it happens to add “manly” hormones and eliminates the ability to get pregnant. So I guess, in a sense, birth control is effective in many ways.
Bonus: warm bodies.
Okay, guys, this one is for you; your wife or girlfriend has a habit of sticking her cold hands under your shirt or her cold feet on your back in bed – LET HER. It’s been discovered that female hands have in general a 37º F lower temperature than men’s hands do. Scientists believe that this occurs because women have a generally smaller muscle mass and have a higher ratio of surface area to volume… which then results in the rapid loss of heat.
The more you know, eh?
So, what do you think? Did you learn anything new about the female/ your own body? Did any of them give you that lightbulb moment of understanding?
