5 Child Stars We All Thought Would Grow Up Hot But Didn’t

It is true that most children are cute and good-looking. And it is also true that only some of them end up looking cute and good-looking when they grow up. Somehow, growing up can really change a person’s appearance, and not necessarily for the better.

Take child actors as an example. Most of them are really cute and attractive and so we naturally believe that they will grow up to become handsome young men and stunning young women. However, that is not always the case. Sometimes cute child actors grow up and lose their good looks somewhere in the process of growing up.

Of course, sometimes it is not only the process of growing up that changes a celeb’s appearance. Fame and lots of money mean that a lot of child actors start drinking and consuming drugs from an early age. And we all know that there is no better and quicker way of losing your good looks than by excessive alcohol consumption and drug abuse.

In addition, some child actors put on a lot of weight and stop caring about their looks. They end up looking sleazy and greasy and it takes them a lot of effort later on in life to clean up their looks.

1. Macaulay Culkin

The actor Macaulay Culkin is probably best known for his role as Kevin McCallister in the Home Alone movie series. Culkin also starred in other successful movies, such as 1991 My Girl, the 1994 Richie Rich and the 2003 Party Monster. Culkin also famously appeared in Michael Jackson’s music video Black or White.

Back in the day, Culkin was said to be the most successful child actor since Shirley Temple and many people believed that he would grow up to be a heartthrob. However, over time Culkin’s appearance changed drastically – he became extremely skinny and pale which sparked rumors of drug abuse.

2. Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson was, and still is an icon and the “King of Pop”. But just like many other famous people, Michael Jackson was really eccentric. How else would you explain his bizarre transformation?

As a kid, Michael Jackson was very cute. And as a teenager, he looked rather well too. You could tell that he would grow up to be a handsome man. However, Michael Jackson clearly did not think so himself for he underwent countless of operations to become his “ideal” self.

Jackson’s bizarre transformation started out modestly – he just wanted a different nose. However, he wasn’t satisfied with his first nose job and went ahead with a few more. Later he had his eyelids lifted, cheek plants inserted and skin bleached, among many other operations.

3.Mayim Bialik
Mayim Bialik is an American actress and neuroscientist. Bialik first began her acting career when she was just a child. Some of her early roles include the 1988 horror movie Pumpkinhead, The Facts of Life and Beauty and the Beast. Nowadays, she is probably best known for her role as Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler in The Big Bang Theory.

Back in the day if you had seen Mayim Bialik on your TV screen or in the cinema you would have probably thought that she would grow up to be a stunning young woman who would turn the heads of many men. However, that did not prove to be the case.

4. Mara Wilson
The former child actress Mara Wilson is probably best known for her role as Matilda Wormwood in Matilda. Wilson also famously played Natalie Hillard in Mrs. Doubtfire and Susan Walker in Miracle on 34th Street.

Even though Wilson was a successful actress, she retired from acting in 2000. Her last film appearance was in the 2000 film Thomas and the Magic Railroad. After Wilson retired from acting, she focused on her writing.

Wilson did not exactly grow up to what one might consider ‘hot’ and she has talked about her low self esteem before – “I knew I wasn’t a gorgon, but I guessed that if 10 strangers were to look at a photo of me, probably about four or five of them would find me attractive. That would not be good enough for Hollywood, where an actress had to be attractive to eight out of 10 people to be considered for even the homely best friend character.”

5. Haley Joel
Haley Joel Osment was a cute kid probably best known for his role as the troubled, psychic Cole Sear in the film The Sixth Sense. For this role Osment was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. His career did not stop there – later Osment appeared in movies such as A.I. Artificial Intelligence and Pay It Forward.

Naturally, everyone thought that this cute kid would grow up to be a young, handsome man. However, many were shocked to see Osment all grown up. While the picture above is of Osment acting as a Nazi for a movie, he looks pretty similar to his Nazi character in real life. And while he doesn’t have a mustache, he is just as heavy as in the movie.
