Lori Loughlin “Shocked And Saddened” Her Legacy May Be Tainted By Admissions Scandal Claims Source

Lori Loughlin and her husband Mossimo Giannulli stand accused of bribing USC $500,000 to ensure their daughters a place at the school. Which is has got them into some pretty freakin’ hot water…

The famous couple has been accused of mail fraud and money laundering conspiracy. If the pair are convicted each crime could carry a 20-year prison sentence. Which is seriously scary stuff…

Though the couple was allowed to cut a plea deal for a reduced prison sentence they decided to persevere in claims of their innocence. Clearly, they’ll be fighting this thing until the bitter end. The main defense the pair has widely been rumored to be using is that they did not understand their actions were illegal.

…I’m not in a position to judge (though it rarely stops me).

A source spoke to People, defending the parent’s actions;

“You read the complaint and they look like criminal masterminds. But they really didn’t know the legalities of what was going on. They’re not lawyers and they’re not experts. They were parents who simply wanted to make sure that their daughters got into a good school.”

In fairness, I can understand the desire to see your children succeed in the best institute available to them… but really? Paying hundreds of thousands of pounds to get into a college? There’s a different way of going about that, it’s called getting the right grades.

The source continued to say that Loughlin and Mossimo were comparable to other affluent families who made “donations” to schools to help their children secure a place there:

“Calling in favors, donating money to the alumni association, hiring consultants. Those are all things that parents do. And so they gave money to this consultant, not entirely knowing everything that was going to be done. When it all fell apart, nobody was as surprised as they were that they were in trouble.”

So if all the other rich parents jumped off a cliff, would you??

Whilst it’s a fair point that questionable “donations” from parents are not a new phenomenon and rarely frowned upon, it hardly excuses Loughlin’s and Mossimo’s idea that buying their child a place would be acceptable while other kids (with the correct qualification they worked really hard for!) were turned down.

Understandably, Loughlin is reported to be a little concerned about how these charges will affect her reputation. The source claims,

“Lori is shocked and saddened that this is what her legacy is going to be”

The source summarised:

“She never intended to break any laws, and if she did, it was inadvertent.”

Loughlin’s daughters were expected to take a place at the college by being falsely designated as recruits for the crew team, despite neither of the girls participating in the sport. Details such as this make it increasingly difficult to believe Loughlin’s and Mossimo’s actions were inadvertent. But like I say, I’m not in a place to judge…

There’s been a lot of talk about whether the punishment will suit the crime in this case. Whilst some are adamant that Loughlin and Mossimo receive no special treatment based on their celebrity status, others are worried that an example will be made of the couple through unnecessarily harsh punishments. I guess we can only hope that the truth comes to light and that the appropriate action is taken!
