Gravestones are naturally somber things, but this hasn’t stopped people from trying to have fun with them or use them in the most creative way possible… I mean, it’s gonna be above you for a while so may as well make it personal!

So here are 15 of the smartest, funniest, or just most downright excellent uses of those sorrowful slabs of rock that hopefully prove that they can be made slightly less sorrowful after all!

Meals can be a great way to remember loved ones, so this is so lovely that she’s not only passed on her signature recipe to her loved ones to remember her by, but anyone who should happen upon this, I’ll have to give it a go (any excuse to make fudge I guess!)

This line has been taken a few times since, but I thought I’d put the spike Milligan one ’cause I freakin’ love Spike Milligan. The epitaph says ‘I told you I was ill’ in Irish – ‘Dúirt mé leat go raibh mé breoite.’ 

This epitaph was also voted the UK’s favorite ever epitaph in a nationwide poll, beating the likes of Oscar Wilde and Winston Churchill!

Never give up on your dreams, especially if your dreams are to have your memory immortalized in the form of a giant geometric stone structure!

The ‘power of positive thinking’ is a sometimes fantastic thing advocated for by hippies everywhere, and here is arguably the antithesis of all of those people combined. Although, I suppose there is a slightly positive spin on death here, even if it is veiled behind some potent negativity.. good on you Paul for remaining positive to the end!

This one is just baffling, and arguably my favorite due to how obscure and apparently true this description is! According to Susan Kane: ‘George Spencer Millet worked in the NY Metropolitan Life Building as an office boy.

On his 15th birthday, he was chased by a group of young women who wanted to give him a birthday kiss. In the scuffle he fell on his ink eraser, which pierced his heart and killed him.’
