Prince Harry Becomes Emotional About Missing His Mom Princess Diana After Birth Of Son Archie

Hello Magazine

Becoming a parent for the first time is an incredibly emotional, beautiful and miraculous time in one’s life… and no matter how prepared you think you are, you never, ever, ever are. One of the things you can never really prepare for when it comes to being a parent, is that parental instinct kicking in which often causes you to think about your own parents, the massive influence they’ve had on your life… whether there’ll still walking this Earth, or not.

One person who has learned this very, very recently is of course, the beloved Prince Harry, who has just become a father for the first time after the birth of his son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, last weekend.

The prince has now spoken out about how becoming a father has poignantly reminded him of his late mother, Princess Diana.

Prince Harry is opening up about how the birth of his son Archie has “given him a new focus and goal” in his life — and how fatherhood has made him feel really the loss of his mother Princess Diana more than ever.

The brand new royal dad traveled all the way to the Netherlands on Thursday – while his wife Meghan Markle and their adorable newborn son, Archie Harrison, stayed home in Windsor to rest up – in order to launch the official countdown to the Invictus Games in The Hague next year (Geez… it really doesn’t stop when you’re a royal does it!?).

During his bike ride around the glorious park, Harry, who is now 34-years-old, opened right up to Dennis van der Stroon, who is a 31-year-old former soldier who hopes to compete for The Netherlands Invictus team.

Dennis revealed his conversation with Harry was “amazing and emotional,” as the pair cycled together around the site for next year’s Invictus Games. He said that Harry completely opened up about his new son and spoke about how becoming a father poignantly reminded him of his late mother, the still-missed-by-all Princess Diana.

“At a certain moment, we just got connected on this level,” Dennis said. “We talked about how my wife, Mireille, is 20 weeks pregnant with our first child, a girl, and he told me how special it was that his son has just been born.

“Harry talked about how having a small child was his new focus and new goal and I told him how a couple of months ago, I was struggling with my mental health but my wife’s pregnancy has given me a goal.”

“Above all he said he was just amazed by the miracles in the world, and how his child has made a lot of people happy. He also told me he’s really happy that his son is so far very quiet. But he also told me not to make too many plans and that there’s no way you can plan for when the baby arrives.”

Preach it, Harry!

In addition to both the men being veterans (If you recall, Harry actually served in the Army for 10 full years), the two have also both tragically experienced the loss of their mothers. Back in 2014, Dennis’ mother, whose name was Marion, died from chronic lung disease, and then in 2015, he himself was diagnosed with PTSD, which then triggered what he himself described as a “domino effect” of mental health issues… which of course prince Harry himself is a huge advocate for.

Heads Together

“I told Harry about my mother and we talked about our shared experience of missing a mom,” Dennis shared. “He said missing a mother is like missing some kind of security, how you need that as a son and it falls away when you lose your mother. He said he meets a lot of people in his work who have lost a mother, father, sister, brother or relatives and when he hears their story, as he heard my story, he said he doesn’t feel so alone.”

So incredibly sweet, don’t you think. Harry isn’t the only one who still mourns the death of his beloved mother, as it still affects people all over the world to this day. But one thing is for sure – wherever she may be right now, Princess Diana is 100% watching over her precious boys, and she is no doubt incredibly proud of both of them and all they’ve come to achieve so far!
