New Zealander’s Voted Sexiest Accent In Worldwide Poll

Whether your traveling within your own country or heading somewhere internationally, the topic of accents will more than likely come up, often with someone saying a line akin to this: ‘Oh I love their accents here, it so sexy/romantic/different!’ And inevitably, the question of ‘what is the sexiest accent’ will come up… let’s face it, everyone has had this debate…

But now, thanks to Big 7 Travel  New Zealanders can hold their voice boxes high, as a recent poll on the website asked their immense following to confess what they thought was the sexiest accent in the world; and the results were that the wonderful lilt of the New Zealand dialect got most of the reader’s engines running.

Big 7 described their crucial world-shattering poll as such: “Here at Big 7 Travel, we’re all about inspiring people to visit somewhere new. There’s almost 7,000 languages in the world, with even more varieties of accents, but which is the best?” And by ‘best’ they mean hottest, and Kiwi won:

“To a novice ear, the New Zealand accent might sound just like the Australian accent, but Big 7 Travel readers disagree. The ‘Newzild’ dialect is outrageously charming.”

My personal choice, the Irish accent came in the 3rd (which is outrageous, have you not listened to Jamie Dornan being interviewed?), and the South African accent came in 2nd. From among the actually termed Romance Languages, Italian came in 4th (yeah, I know!), French came in 7th, and Spanish came in 8th.

Southern U.S.A placed well in 9th due to the fact that apparently no one can ‘resist a slow, Texan drawl’. The New Yorker accent was far less favorably looked upon though as it placed only 44th, and was described as, ‘Fast and hypernasal, yet quite charming at times,’ which is doubtless to have people in an uproar, and rightly so, I love the New York accent!

Classic ‘Queen’s English’ placed highly in 12th apparently due tot he fact of it being ‘Clear, clipped and completely posh.’ I think the Scouse accent (which came in at 32nd) should have placed higher if I’m honest, I mean just watch an interview with the Beatles and you’ll see what I mean.

Due to the fact of it being a ‘Top 50 Sexiest Accents’ poll, someone had to come last, and that happened to be Croatian accent: ‘The least popular Slavic accent, Croats just about made the Top 50.’ Still though, it’s pretty groovy that they got in!

As daft as this poll may seem it is a great idea from a marketing point of view as its doubtlessly guaranteed to get people very emphatically arguing about why their accent the best, I can already hear the hordes of people leaping to their keyboards to prove why their sexier than the entirety of New Zealand; but, if I’m honest, I find the New Zealand accent quite sexy, but that might just be because I freakin’ love Taika Waititi!
