Kim Kardashian Funds Legal Team Who Freed 17 Prisoners In Just 90 Days

‘Keeping Up The Kardashians’ star and regular over-priced-outfit-promoter Kim Kardashian has finally used some of her immense wealth to decent use, by funding a team of lawyers to help free prisoners who previously had no chance of parole.

You may have seen that Kim Kardashian made quite a splash of publicity when she announced her intentions to study to become a lawyer following her successful advocation for the release of a 63 year old one time drug offender serving a life-sentence. Well, since the introduction of the First Step Act on the 1st April, prisoners who may have not had the chance of parole are being given the opportunity to shorten their sentences, and Kim is funding a team to help.

Life without parole is an immensely severe sentence, and Kim Kardashian and the Buried Alive project have been passionately advocating for reform to the legal system to help people serving life without parole as the Buried Alive project says, ‘It rips away any chance of reconciliation with society and gives no chance of fulfillment outside of prison walls.’

Kim’s personal lawyer and co-founder of a project called Buried Alive, Brittany K. Barnett (pictured below) made this statement to BuzzFeed news:

“She’s using her platform to shine a light on this issue […] She really helped us with the work we’ve already been doing, and she’s helping us amplify the voices of the people who are buried alive […] This wasn’t just a one-off thing, this is a real passion for her.”

Kim K will have to wait a long time before she can actually practice law herself, with it being predicted she will be taking the bar exam in 2022, but that clearly hasn’t stopped her getting involved in criminal reform. However, I think it’s maybe a little unfair that all (or at least a good portion) of the headlines say ‘Kim Kardashian free’s 17 prisoners’ when there is a whole team working to help these people, but because Kim has more money she gets all the credit. I guess that’s just our freakin’ society.

Kim even said herself when she announced her desire to study law in an interview with Vogue that saw her sipping strawberry margaritas, boasting the wealth she has, and parading her commodities in front of a journalist: “it’s never one person who gets things done; it’s always a collective of people, and I’ve always known my role, but I just felt like I wanted to be able to fight for people who have paid their dues to society.”

So it’s good to see people that do hard work being shunned form the spotlight by someone who can simply send off money to help without having to really do anything, well done Kim!

Okay, my skepticism aside she really has done something right here and it’s my distrust of reality stars that is getting in the way. I’m genuinely glad to see her doing something helpful to society and if she does eventually manage to become a lawyer, seeing her work her way to such a powerful and privileged  position will hopefully serve as an inspiration to other women – and hopefully contrasting the unpleasant message that ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ sends out.

It’s great to see Kim Kardashian doing something to help society, hopefully she continues in this vein and keeps using her influence for positive means. AAx
