Just In: Court stops Ganduje from whittling down Emir Sanusi's powers

A High Court sitting in Kano has stopped the Kano State government from splitting the Emirate in the state.

This ruling given on Friday means the state Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the Kano State House of Assembly and Speaker, Clerk of the Assembly, including the Attorney-General and the State cannot go on with whittling down the powers of Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamifo Sanusi.

The plaintiff, Hon Sule Gwarzo, filed an exparte motion before Justice Nasiru Saminu, seeking the court to restrain the respondents from taking any action of creating four additional Emirates.

The court in an order of interim injunction directed all parties in this suit to maintain the status quo, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

The law which was signed by Governor Ganduje on Wednesday, created four more Emirates, allegedly to reduce Sanusi’s powers for not supporting the second term bid of Ganduje.

More details shortly…
