Britney Spears Reveals Father Forced Her To Take Meds & Hospital Stay While Controlling Her Finances

Yes, the #FreeBritney movement has managed to secure an advocate somewhat important to the cause, Britney herself. According to sources, Britney told a judge that she had been forcibly admitted to a hospital and made to take drugs against her will by her father, in a recent court appearance.

In April, amid fears that Britney had been admitted to a mental institution against her will by her father, the online movement ‘#FreeBritney’ garnered an incredible amount of attention. The movement seeks to free Britney from the conservatorship of her father, Jamie Spears, as they believe that she is capable of managing her own finances and daily life – and it appears that Britney now agrees!

According to TMZ, Britney essentially told a judge that her father had committed her to a mental institution against her will and had forced her to take drugs. It was also said by the website’s source that Britney’s mother Lynne Spears, supported the claims.

However, according to the terms of Jamie Spears’ position do not permit him to take those sorts of actions. Ultimately, the judge denied Britney’s wishes to be set free from the terms of her conservatorship, and it was ordered that she be evaluated by an expert which will dictate the future of the terms of her relationship with her father.

Britney’s father initially took over this position in 2008 when Britney was thought to be incapable of managing her own affairs after a series of erratic public displays which resulted in her being hospitalized. However, since then fans have sought to free the pop star from this relationship with her father as they believe that she is being held against her will in institutions by her father, as well as being drugged by him – which up until now, Britney has ardently denied.

The singer took to Instagram back in April where she released a video saying: ‘All is well. My family has been going through a lot of stress and anxiety lately, so I just needed time to deal.’ She also captioned the post by saying, ‘There’s rumors, death threats to my family and my team, and just so many things crazy things being said […] Don’t believe everything you read and hear.’

It is hard to tell whether this sudden change of heart is a maneuver to try and simply demonize her father by spreading false rumors, or whether it is a genuine cry out for help. Recently the #FreeBritney movement had another explosion of publicity when Miley Cyrus shouted ‘Free Britney’ while on stage at the Beale Street Music Festival last week.

Again, placing a cynical cap on, it’s possible that this was simply a move by Miley Cyrus to leap slightly further into the forefront of the public eye as she has a new album coming out soon.

Regardless of what happens though with the free Britney movement, I just hope that she gets the help she deserves, whether it be from family, friends, doctors, fans or whoever. She’s given us so many freakin’ great hits, where would our Spotify playlists be without her?!
