When a hip hop dance video gets 12 million views in just two weeks, you don’t expect the star of the show to be a gentleman of advanced years, and yet…

…Here we are! 

And thank goodness for it! We can’t stop watching this guy completely upstage every other dancer in the room. The man has moves.

So who is this hip-hoppin’ legend showing the kids how it’s done? We present to you Mike Alancourt from Jacksonville, Florida. Mike is an aspiring ASL/English Interpreter and, obviously, the greatest dancer currently existing on planet Earth.

We’re too old to use the word (or even understand it properly!) but we believe this is what whipper snappers call “swag”???

MIKE HAS SWAG. BUCKETS OF THE STUFF.

But Mike prefers to identify as “mostly dork, part hippy”.

Clearly, fame and mind-blowing dance skills haven’t changed Mike from his humble, easy-going personality. A sweet guy who is magnetic on the dance floor, what’s not to love?! We’re itching to get up and join him for a dance (provided our joints can handle it… they can’t!)

I guess we’ll just shimmy out some Rick Astley moves or something…

One afternoon Mike (our new best friend) showed up at a hip-hop cardio class at 1Vibe Dance studio. Jennifer Colvin (ex Dallas Cowboys cheerleader and current choreographer) could not have been expecting much of Mike… but then he came out with some serious shapes!

At first glance, Mike looks more hip-op than hip-hop, but he showed us!

Mike said there was “a lot to absorb” in the one hour class where he learned the complicated choreography of the dance routine (filmed at the end of the session). But you’d never know he found learning the routine a challenge! He completely makes the dance his own and seems as though he was born for that stage!

Go Mike! 

In addition, Mike completely upstages the much younger dancers to his left and right (sorry, what? There was someone else dancing in that video?!) Of course, these dancers are absolutely brilliant but something about Mike makes it impossible to look away.

And Mike has expressed just how deeply touched he is by the positive response to his dancing in this teary-eyed photo.

Oh, Mike! Stop! Our hearts can’t take this level of adorable! Mike went on to speak about his gratitude to everyone sharing and enjoying his work.

“Thank you SO MUCH for all your comments and messages. This whole thing has just been bonkers and I am so SO grateful to anyone who took the time.

I spent a lot of years as a prisoner of my own fear, so to my mom, and to my Springfield family… Thank you so much for the endless support. These past few years have been amazing. It feels so good to be free again.”

What a beautiful sentiment! Clearly, Mike wasn’t so confident going into the class or about his dancing ability prior to the viral video. We’re so glad he finally took the leap and has shared his gift with the world. An important reminder to us all to never let fear stop us pursuing our dreams! Here’s Mike chasing down that dream and looking great while doing so!
