The Baby Bats At This Australian Wildlife Clinic Are Too Cute For Words
The clinic does amazing work for the region’s wildlife
When you think of bats, what kind of imagery comes to mind? Do you think of the various different Batman movies, or maybe one of those old-school vampire flicks?
Speaking in general terms, bats are usually seen as scary or intimidating, and are often associated with spooky things like Halloween. In short, these little guys have a bit of an image problem!
With that in mind, I am here to bring you the good news that baby bats are, in fact, intensely cute, and deserve all of our attention and love – as you can see from these photos.
The pictures you’re looking at are taken from The Australian Bat Clinic & Wildlife Trauma Centre in eastern Australia’s Gold Coast Hinterland.
The center does amazing work all year round, regularly taking in baby bats (which, by the way, are called ‘pups’) when their mothers have died, and making sure that they’re taken care of.
The organisation also treats fully-grown adult bats that are afflicted by mites and other diseases that are common to the species, in order to give them the best chance of survival once they’re re-released into the wild.
I’m sure you guys will agree that the only thing cuter than a baby bat swaddled in baby blankets… is a veterinary clinic full of baby bats swaddled in baby blankets. I simply can’t get enough of these photos!
As adorable as they are, the baby blankets that they wrap the young bat pups in aren’t just for looks and social media shareability – they have a practical use, too.
You see, if the baby bats have been orphaned, they lack the warm, nurturing embrace of their mothers’ wings, so these little blankets are the next best thing for their development.
I’ll be honest with you, folks – like many people, I have always had a little bit of an aversion to bats, and generally found them a bit scary. However, looking through these pictures has definitely changed my mind for good! I had no idea that they were so cute close up.
Australia is world-famous for its wide array of wildlife, and the large island nation is home to nearly 100 different subspecies of bats. Between 25 and 30 of those reside in the region where the Australian Bat Clinic is located.
The Australian Bat Clinic do a whole lot of amazing work for the wildlife in their area. If you want to find out more, ask them some questions, or maybe just gawp at some more adorable bat baby photos, you can check out their Facebook page here. It’s well worth a visit, believe me!
They often hold fundraising campaigns where bat lovers can donate towards the running costs of the centre. Check their page for more information!
Kudos to all the staff and volunteers at the Australian Bat Clinic. There’s a special place in heaven for those who take care of vulnerable animals! AAx
