Royal Biographer Reveals William And Kate’s Romance Began When They First Met At Just 9 Years Old

This month we’ll be celebrating the eighth glorious year of Prince William’s and Kate Middleton’s marriage!

Sure, I know I can go on about this royal pair but… just look at them!

Kate and Wills always look so loved up! They’re a truly dashing couple, they do amazing charity work and appear to be wonderfully grounded despite being royal.

As their anniversary approaches royal biographer Katie Nicholl has been letting us in on the lesser-known events in the couple’s relationship. Although no Cinderella story runs smoothly (did you know, they broke up their relationship twice before getting engaged?!) Kate and Wills have shared a near-perfect relationship. Many think they met in college but Nicholl’s reveals they actually met much earlier, when they were just kids…

According to Nicholl’s the pair met by absolute fate. Kate and Will attended separate prep schools that happened to be close to one another and occasionally played sports together. One day, Prince William came to play in a hockey match. Nicholls writes,

“Although [Kate] wasn’t especially interested in boys, the arrival of one particular young man had caught her attention…”

You can hardly blame the girl, he was a freakin’ prince after all!

Kate was just as interested in sports as young William! You’ve got to wonder if they hit off a friendship right away? Although this was the first time the pair laid eyes on each other it was (thankfully!) not to be the last…

The Prince and Kate ended up attending the same University as each other. I love how they look here, so bookish and so freakin’ young?! Who would have known the royal couple they would make…

Speaking about the early stages of their romance Kate admitted to William (in an interview with the Express) that “I actually went bright red when I met you and scuttled off feeling very shy about meeting you,”

Aw!! Bless her! I know I’d feel very much the same!

But fortunately, Kate wasn’t alone in her nervousness! William reportedly spilled his drink all over himself at their first meeting! Clearly, the pair were a little dumb-struck by the other.

Their close friendship quickly blossomed into a long term relationship. Which must have been pretty intimidating for poor Kate! Having not grown up under the royal spotlight she must have felt kind of uncomfortable at first, fortunately, she stuck it out… and if I was dating a prince, I think I would too!

However, it wasn’t all plain sailing! There was trouble in paradise more than once and the couple broke up twice before getting engaged. It is rumored that both break-ups were initiated by the prince. Hey, he probably had a lot on his plate, being the future King of England and all, very little time to find the perfect girlfriend! But can you imagine if the “one that got away” also happened to be royalty?!

But our girl Kate admits she found the positives in the experience. She spoke to Harper’s Bazaar saying;

“At the time I wasn’t very happy about it, but it actually made me a stronger person […] You find out things about yourself that maybe you hadn’t realized. I think you can get quite consumed by a relationship when you are younger, and I really valued that time for me as well, although I didn’t think it at the time.”

What a woman.

Things all worked out though, when the couple decided they wouldn’t be happy with anyone else. The pair married in 2010, nine years after meeting in college (and a heck of a lot of time since meeting at prep school!)

The couple got engaged in Kenya, William gave Kate his late mother’s wedding ring. Which is such a beautiful tribute, he must have been convinced she was the one (and she absolutely is!).

In 2013 the couple welcomed their first baby, Prince George and since have had two further children; Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

It’s been quite a rollercoaster for these two! Who would have thought, all those years ago at a hockey match, what a beautiful romance would follow…
