Oil rig workers were baffled to find a dog swimming alone in the middle of the Gulf of Thailand, 135 miles away from dry land! – “We just saw her small head but if the ripples were bigger, I think we probably wouldn’t have noticed her at all.”

If you’re in need of something so wholesome that will make your heart grow three times in size, then this story  of a dog rescued from certain death by a crew of oil rig workers is exactly what you need today! It is an absolute miracle that oil rig workers managed to spot the 3-5-year-old pooch’s head bobbing along in the middle of the ocean! And, you can only imagine that they must have thought that they were going slightly stir crazy on the rig for a moment!  Thankfully though, when the workers called out to the dog, it made its way for the rig and took refuge amongst the rusty bars at its base, where it sat and presumably thought: ‘Phew! Thank freakin’ Christ for that!’

According to the Daily Mail, the workers set about nursing the dog back to health, with worker Khon Vitisak, the worker who saved the animal, saying:

“After she made it onto the bars below the rig she didn’t cry or bark at all. We looked for a way to help her and in the end, decided to use the rope to tie around her body to lift her up. When we first took her onboard her she was depressed and tired from being in the water for a long time […] When he gave her water and minerals her symptoms improved. She started sitting up and walking normally.”

The workers built a special cage for the dog for during her two-night stay and then she was transferred to a passing ship so that she could be taken to vets. The dog is now with animal care workers and rescuer Khon Vitisak has expressed a desire to adopt the animal should she be found to have no owners:

“I hope to adopt her as a pet. I am looking forward to spending many happy years together with her.”

Boonrod, as the workers named her (meaning ‘making a spiritual donation for good luck in the future’ in Thai), is currently doing very well with animal care workers in Thailand. The oil rig workers were commended for doing such a great job with her, and you can only imagine she must have had a great time with them on her little holiday…

But, ‘How did she get there?’ ‘Where did she come from?’ and, ‘How did she survive?’ were amongst the questions that the workers had, and they still have no idea! It is presumed that the dog jumped from off a boat that she had boarded, if not that then this is the Michael Phelps of pooches!

Is this not just the most wholesome thing you’ve seen all day!? Just seeing Boonrod with her lei of flowers is too much! Above all though, I just need to know how she got there in the first place; but, I doubt we’ll ever know… if you’ve got any ideas let me know! AAx
