McDonald’s Slammed For “Cruel” April Fools “Pickle Burger”

There’s nothing better than a Big Mac… but some ingredients are considered a lot less desirable than others…

So whilst that image is truly mouth-watering (and I can only apologize for including it, we’ll suffer together) not everyone is super keen on all the components. We all like the Big Mac in a certain way; no lettuce (we’re at McDonald’s, we’re not here for a salad, Ronald!), others can’t stand the sauce, some would eat it in five seconds flat and some prefer to savor the taste.

But the most controversial ingredient? You guessed it!

Pickles.

Look at them. A never-ending tidal wave of sausage-shaped misery… depending on who you ask of course.

So, McDonald’s were pretty clever when they chose the much-debated pickle to be the subject of their April Fool’s prank.

But the prank maybe isn’t what you’d expect… You might imagine that the food chain would be dealing out extra free pickles to unimpressed customers who were told to expect free ice cream (uh-oh, shouldn’t have mentioned that now McFlurries are taking over my mind…)

Mmmmmmm… Do we have to keep talking about pickles when we could be discussing ice cream?!

*sigh* Okay, let’s get back to it. So! McDonald’s wrote on their Australian social media account:

“Pickle lovers, it’s the news you’ve all been waiting for.

“We’re super stoked to announce the launch of our brand new McPickle Burger.

It’s time to tuck into juicy, flavoursome pickles layered between melted cheese, ketchup sauce and toasted sesame seed buns.

“It’s sure to be a treat for all your senses.”

A… a… a McPickleBurger?!?!?! Oh, the humanity!

“A treat for all your senses”? They misspelled, “A treat for absolutely none of your senses”.

Okay, maybe my dislike of Pickles makes me slightly bias… slightly.

But the internet immediately erupted with pickle loving customers, itching to get their hands on the gherkin sandwich. However, the green fairytale was not to be when McDonald’s revealed the news had been a hoax. People couldn’t cope.

It was a true pickle tragedy for fans. Of course, every pickle is a tragedy for those who aren’t so keen on the greens.

One customer responded: “Cruel this isn’t real.”

They call it cruel, we call it a blessing but each to their own…

McDonald’s responded to the uproar, saying: “We know there’s a lot of love out there for our famous pickles, and the McPickle Burger has certainly got people talking about them.”

Clearly, April Fools Day has become an excuse for some shameless pickle PR. We’re disappointed by all involved.

Look at that tower of terror…

For those with a passion for pickles? We suggest making your weird pickle request at the counter and hoping for the best… Or maybe just make it at home? It’s pretty easy right?! Plus you won’t have to suffer judgment from the general public on your unusual tastes…

Know somebody who would have loved the McPickle Burger? Make sure they know their dream was almost a reality! Happy April Fool’s! AAx
