The Lori Loughlin scandal has garnered such immense traction that it’s hard to believe that anybody anywhere isn’t up to speed with the case. When this fun-filled rollercoaster of celebrities-yet-again-using-immense-finance-to-bypass-rules-everyone-else-has-to-live-by extravagance last came around, Loughlin and her husband were already facing 20 years in a federal prison for their initial charges as a result of the college admissions scandal, but things have gotten a lot worse for the couple…

According to reports, the couple were offered a plea deal in which they would have to serve a minimum prison sentence of just two years, but since the couple rejected the deal they have been indicted on two more counts of money laundering and fraud… which is sure to be less than a fun revelation for the couple. It’s almost as if rules apply to famous people too…

The new charges could carry a prison sentence of up to 20 years. This, combined with the initial charges also carrying a potential 20-year sentence could accumulate to Loughlin facing a total of 40 years in federal prison.

The mind boggles as to why the couple would gamble in the situation that they are in when the stakes are so high? However, the pair’s rejection of the deal could have something to do with the fact that Lori Laughlin didn’t really think that anything that she was doing was really such a big deal. A source close to Loughlin recently told People magazine:

“From the beginning, she didn’t want to take a deal, because she felt that she hadn’t done anything that any mom wouldn’t have done, if they had the means to do so […] So this wasn’t her being obstinate; this was her truly not understanding the seriousness of the allegations.”

How can she not see what she’s done is illegal, I mean seriously? Yeah, people will do anything for their kids, but abusing the system in such an offensively manipulative way to ensure your children have a hugely unfair advantage over kids from less fortunate backgrounds is unacceptable and surely must carry a punishment?

It also doesn’t seem that the authorities are going easy on Loughlin because of her celebrity status, in fact if anything they seem to be coming down harder on her to set an example. A source close to People magazine also attested to this fact:

“They really want to make sure that there isn’t this perception that these people are able to skate by because they’re rich […] They want to make sure everyone is equal in the eyes of the law.”

While it’s easy for so many parents to understand the desire to do anything for their kids, can you imagine if it had been your child who lost out at an opportunity that they’d worked so hard for just because a celebrity had more money than you?

As awful as the crime is, is it fair to punish her more because she is a celebrity, or should we treat her the same as everyone else? Let me know what you think in the comments below! AAx
