Kim Kardashian Is Reportedly Studying To Become A Criminal Lawyer
Is she finally getting a proper job?! In her most recent publicity splash, internet sensation Kim Kardashian has announced her intentions to study law and take the bar exam in 2022, but why?

Surprisingly, this seemingly left-field announcement does have some logic behind it. Not only was Kim Kardashian’s father Robert Kardashian famously an attorney, but also this move comes after events last year whereby Kim (yeah I call her Kim, we’re tight like that) aided in the release of a 69 year-old Grandma imprisoned on a cocaine trafficking and money laundering case.

The case, which wasn’t simply the plot to a Legally Blonde-esque late 90s flick, was heavily reported on and was more importantly, putting my vacuum of enthusiasm regarding the Kardashian’s aside, genuinely uplifting and a real triumph for the social media star as Ms Johnson’s was ultimately commuted by Trump. However, I’m not completely convinced by her claims of becoming a lawyer.
Speaking to Vogue magazine in a riveting article about her life (in which the reporter spends seemingly forever reiterating how amazing she is for not letting the pressure of her massive house, limitless money, and massive social media fame, all which she desires, doesn’t get her down – bless her socks), Kardashian West goes into more detail about why she’s decided to pursue criminal law…

“I had to think long and hard about this […] It’s never one person who gets things done; it’s always a collective of people, and I’ve always known my role, but I just felt like I wanted to be able to fight for people who have paid their dues to society. I just felt like the system could be so different, and I wanted to fight to fix it, and if I knew more, I could do more.”

Kim won’t be going to school though like everyone else though… oh, what? You thought that this down to Earth celebrity would do it the proper way? No, Kim will be doing an apprenticeship for four years with a law firm in San Fransisco, because in California, whilst ‘Most people go to law school before becoming an attorney […] it isn’t the only way to get a legal education. Applicants can also study in a law office or with a judge.’
And I’m sure that many people use this route legitimately, but it’s just typical of this sort of situation – a massively successful (*shudders) celebrity makes a massively publicized effort to rebrand (because that’s what this is what it is lets face it) in an effort to appear more human, but behind it all is enabled by such a cacophonous wealth that the result just comes off as, in reality, ‘I’m doing this because I can.’

The worry is that this move will become the educational equivalent of people who take pictures of books they’re ‘reading’ for social media with a cup of coffee when what they’re really doing is just that, taking a freakin’ photo of a book instead of reading it! And can you really imagine that Kim Kardashian will be cutting filming for an episode of ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ short so she can get to court, maybe I’m freakin’ cynical but I doubt it.
At the end of the day, if Kim Kardashian pursues this with no real avail or seriousness, it will be a slap in the face of so many genuinely struggling families with children who dream of studying law, but lack the financial means to do so! Sure, people will applaud her for this, but if 2022 comes around and she isn’t taking that bar exam with every ounce of seriousness that her being can muster, then she should be made to answer for it.
What do you make of Kim’s ‘attempts’ to be a lawyer? Do you think she will genuinely make a run at this, or will it simply fade into the background to be forgotten about like so much that celebrities say with ‘good’ intentions? AAx
