Hugh Jackman Reveals Work Has Begun On The Greatest Showman Sequel

This was the greatest show so it’s fitting it should be getting a sequel!

If you don’t know about The Greatest Showman, where have you been?! It’s frankly impressive if you’ve made it thus far without coming across the glitzy glamour of the Hugh Jackman movie-musical. The film grossed $435 million worldwide (so it’s fair to say it’s popular!) and its spellbinding soundtrack has been taking up radio waves since its release.

With feel-good anthems like “This Is Me” and the dreamy duets of “Rewrite The Stars”, The Greatest Showman is the bespangled, star-studded, all-singing, all-dancing cinematic delight that this world so desperately needs.

With a hefty host of fans worldwide it’s no surprise that people are eagerly anticipating a potential sequel to the film. There seemed to be no whiff of a suggestion that we’d soon be enjoying The Greatest Showman Two for some time… until now…

Hugh Jackman, being the perfect gentleman of Hollywood has been so kind as to clarify (kind of) the likelihood of The Greatest Showman Reloaded (not the title, but I can dream) And fans will be pleased to hear, it’s looking good! 

Jackman spoke to BBC Radio 2 about his role in upcoming film Missing Link (when does this guy stop? Seriously, does he pause for coffee breaks between all these roles or…?) When presenter Steve Wright probed for news on a Showman Sequel, Jackman was a little reserved to begin. He said:

“The real answer is ‘could be’, I’m not sure. I’m being completely honest with you, there is talk of something going around but no one is really sure.”

Hugh, that is very cryptic of you…

Thankfully, Wright was on our side and persisted to question Jackman further on the subject. Jackman went on to reply:

“I think someone is working on a treatment for something…”

Oh, you think do you, Hugh? You think ‘someone’ is working on ‘something’? Don’t play coy with us you hunk of gorgeous Australian.

Go on, Hugh… tell us more.

Finally, the actor, singer, dancer, father, husband and loveliest man in the whole wide world finally relented and let on that the sequel was less of a maybe and more of a definitely.

Jackman confirmed:

“I know they are, they’re working on a treatment for something.”

Get your dancing shoes on, folks! Warm up your vocal cords! It’s happening!

But will Jackman don the top hat to lead the film franchise once more? His response was surprisingly non-committal…

“I don’t know. I would like to be part of it, for sure, and I don’t know if it would be centered on my character. The other thing is, it did take eight years to get [the first movie] made and that wasn’t all eight years of convincing people. It takes a long time to write stuff.”

Eight years? Pardon me? I CAN’T WAIT THAT LONG.

How about I just write the script? I can have it done by tomorrow morning. Hugh Jackman’s character does a sing and a dance for approximately an hour and then he re-marries a character played by me in an unexpected whirlwind romance. The film concludes with a re-write of the song “This Is Me” called “This Is Me And My Husband Hugh Jackman, Thank You For Seeing Our Film”. That’s the plot, I think it’s brilliant, I expect to hear from Hollywood soon.

Hugh fully approves this idea.
