9 Seriously Surprising Changes Your Vagina Can Go Through When You’re Pregnant
Pregnancy can be a bumpy road. From the first tiny kicks of your little one to food cravings and morning sickness, pregnancy has its ups and downs!
Your body goes through a heck of a lot of changes during pregnancy, y’know, because you’re doing that whole “growing another person inside of yourself” business. We talk a lot about how pregnancy affects the body, from varicose veins to the baby pushing on your poor bursting bladder! But rarely do we look into just how pregnancy can effect potentially the most important part of us during pregnancy! So today we’ll be talking about, you guessed it… the vagina! Hooray!
Strap yourselves in for some serious visual innuendos and implications, ladies…
1. You can experience the biggest, bestest orgasms of your entire life when you’re pregnant!
What a nice Grapefruit. What a strange way to prepare it…
So why is this the case? Well, when a woman is pregnant her blood volume can increase by up to 50% which means the vagina can become swollen and super sensitive. Pregnant women also have increased levels of oxytocin, estrogen, and progesterone. That, in plain English, means they get super horny and can have super orgasms! So if your partner is pregnant? Best get back to the bedroom!
2. The smell and taste of your vagina could change
The changes in a woman’s hormonal balance effect the pH levels in her vagina when she’s pregnant. As such, your vagina is more likely to taste salty during pregnancy, which is great news if your partner prefers savory to sweet…
3. You may feel a stabbing sensation where you least want a stabbing sensation…
Okay, so any woman who’s ever had a period is probably thinking the same thing right now, “big deal, you can’t scare me!”. HOWEVER there’s a little sensation known by the jazzy name; lightning crotch. I kid you not. This is where the vagina, rectum or pelvic area feels like it is being struck by lightning bolts. Seriously. Doctor’s came up with these names.
4. You could get unusual discharge…
You may find you have more discharge or different discharge to what you would experience when not pregnant. The body produces more discharge to protect the cervix and close to a woman’s due date the vagina may expel a gooey, mucus plug… Delightful.
5. It might get very itchy down below…
Itchiness is the unfortunate product of increased levels of discharge and an alteration in the vagina’s pH levels. Sorry girls… I wish it could be all Roses…
6. It’s even easier to pick up infections…
More bad news I’m afraid, gals. Due to increased estrogen levels and changes in pH the vagina is more susceptible to yeast infections. Though you’re no more likely to get a UTI when pregnant as oppose to when you’re not pregnant, the likelihood the UTI will progress to a kidney infection goes up by 40% when you are pregnant.
7. Bulging veins can appear on your vagina
Oh, goody. As many as 22% of women get vaginal varicose veins. The pressure and weight of the baby cause the veins to protrude which can be pretty painful…
This baby better be freakin’ worth it…
8. You might get a lot of ingrown hairs down there…
If you do choose to shave down there I’ve got some bad news… Because of increased estrogen levels hair grows back faster, while the increased amount a pregnant woman will sweat opens up and clogs the pores. The perfect recipe for ingrown hairs. But honestly? You’re pregnant, you’ve got enough on your plate without reaching down under to make your privates smooth as a dolphin’s back!
9. Your vagina might get a little… blue
Due to the increased flow of blood to the vagina during pregnancy it is possible that your vagina may just perform a magical color change, and turn blue!
So there you go boys and girls! I guess everyday really is a school day… Let’s hope any soon-to-be Mom’s enjoy these upsides (and don’t suffer too many of the downsides!) you girls are doing great!
Did this list shock you? Or maybe you’ve already been there and done that? Let me know in the comments of other cool pregnancy facts and remember to show respect and love to the pregnant women of this world! AAx
