20 Infuriating Times That The Customer Was Absolutely, Undeniably, 100%, Completely Wrong

working season 6 GIF by Curb Your Enthusiasm

Having suffered through… sorry, I mean, worked… in the hospitality industry for over ten years, I have always, always said that every single human being on this planet should be made to work at least ONE year within the industry, whether it be in retail, hotels or other. Why? Well, just so that everybody gets to experience just how awful other people can truly be to you when all you’re trying to do is your freakin’ job.

YEAH, I said it, and I mean it. I’m also going to say and mean this; people are TRASH and customers are ALWAYS WRONG. Okay okay, rant over.

…Kind of.

But let’s face it, the phrase “The customer is always right” is not only outdated but is also absolute garbage. Personally, I think the phrase should be changed to;

“The customer is NOT right, however, the customer is incredibly entitled and most probably cheap so they will try and get away with as much as possible by complaining about anything they can think of in order to get a measly 10% off of their service.”

oh snap GIF

But then again I suppose that not quite as catchy… but DARN would I love to see that hanging in every store, hotel and public area across the world one day.

Anyway, in case you aren’t already infuriated enough this week, I’ve gone ahead and collected some of the most ridiculous things customers have ever done/said/been wrong about, for your amusement. And if any of these things listed below reminds you of yourself – then maybe you should consider having a quiet word with yourself in a corner somewhere.

1.

Well, I’ve got to start with this one because I feel bad about only focusing on hospitality and not also including those poor souls in the public service industry too. Can’t freakin’ win, can we?

2.

I always hear people talking about “the problem with this generation” due to how spoiled and entitled they apparently all are… but let’s be honest, 99% of the time when a customer is being outrageous in a situation they are usually “of a certain age”… and it’s not the age of “this generation”.

3.

This makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. My favorite part of working in hospitality was when I got to proudly tell a customer that they were wrong to their own faces. Ohhhh the sweet, small victories of life.

4.

I was a bar manager and can absolutely confirm that this happens ALL. THE. TIME. My personal favorite was when a customer ordered a diet soda, and I gave them a diet soda, and they said that it wasn’t a diet soda, so I changed the cup, and then all of a sudden magically it was a diet soda. Amazing.

5.

I was also a hotel manager and managed a hotel that had a name which was vaguely similar to a hotel on the other side of town and the number of times customers would scream at me because they had “DEFINITELY” booked my hotel when they had actually booked the other one was just insane.

6.

Can I please get a resounding slow clap and a standing ovation for this brave social media worker for the London Underground!? DAMN son. Every retail worker’s DREAM.

7.

I enjoy this one because I’ve been on the other side… in other words, I have been the drunken mess trying to get into the club even though I had absolutely NO business trying to get into a club. So on behalf of all those doormen I verbally abused over the years I AM VERY VERY SORRY.

8.

I mean… what’s that old saying? Ask a stupid question and receive a stupid answer. And my friend, YOU asked a very, very stupid question.

9.

I er… I just don’t even know where to start with this one. A) I didn’t even know you could actually make requests to butcher’s and B) this is just a whole other level of creepy I don’t want to particularly dig deeper into.

10.

Well, I guess if you’re looking for undeniable proof that aliens truly walk among us that this would be it, because that is the only explanation I can think of as to why anybody would not know that Legos “came in pieces”.

11.

If you’re a little slow on the uptake for this one, the joke is that carbon monoxide is known to be a very poisonous, yet very scentless obnoxious gas.

12.

Okay well somebody is clearly being pranked here – whether it be the customer of the delivery person. Either way, as infuriating it is, at least it ended up with a pretty freakin’ hilarious result!

13.

Ahhhh another favorite of mine; when the customer has absolutely no idea what they’re ordering but they pretend as though they do anyway and then argue with you when you deliver the thing they didn’t realize they were ordering. A hospitality classic.

14.

Maybe this isn’t quite a “customer being int he wrong” example, but I couldn’t leave it out because it is just TOO funny. It is also absolutely something I would probably do, so I feel this persons pain on a spiritual level. I too would be “Fuuuuuuuming”.

15.

Sometimes there’s just literally nothing you can do and you just have to let the customer suffer the consequences of their own stupidity alone. If they won’t listen then they won’t listen (and trust me, they will not listen) but hey – at least you tried, right? Enjoy your moment.

16.

This is my favorite, yet my most INFURIATING example yet. It certainly is a truly sad state of affairs when there are people out there living and breathing and working in this big ole crazy world who have never once, not once come into contact with a freakin’ basil leaf before. I blame the PARENTS.

17.

Still can’t decide whether this one is staged or 100% authentic. If it does happen to be authentic… then may the universe help us all if this person should ever choose to procreate.

18.

I wonder if this is the same person who asked if a camera could take a selfie? Surely they have to be at least related a little, right? SMH.

19.

Ah yes, you can always count on Virgin to serve some sass during a dull Monday morning commute. Well what do you expect? Virgin don’t control the weather… only Disney can do that!

20.

Ah, here we have the classic customer in their natural habitat. The question on everyone’s mind is; Is this woman just incredulously selfish!? Or is she just so stupid that she has no idea how a stack of baskets work? Maybe it’s her first ever day shopping on her own? I’d like to give her the benefit of the doubt, however, sadly I know much, much better than that.

Okay, folks, I can almost FEEL you itching to tell me your own personal experiences. Have you ever worked in some sort of hospitality job and had to suffer the customers who are “always right”? Or maybe you have witnessed it first hand as a customer yourself? Well, either way, let me know in the comments! And don’t forget to spread the laughter (and annoyance) by sharing this with your friends and family too! AAx
