The moment that someone first holds their new baby is an unbelievably personal and emotional moment, and therefore it is a moment which photographers ardently try to capture… and we’re glad when they manage to!

In our current societal state where everything is documented on people’s social media pages whether it be that they’re simply doing the ironing, or whether they’re getting their hair cut, it’s only natural that the moment of someone’s birth would be one of the most actually important moments to be captured. And sure, who doesn’t like pictures of babies… people with no emotions, that’s who!

Tammy Schmit from Little leaping photography managed to capture this moment when two expectant fathers met their Baby (Emily) after the surrogate mother they used had given birth. Jakob wrote to Huffington Post about their journey to become parents: “I’ve sort of wanted to become a dad as far back as I can remember, but I almost gave up the dream when I realized that I was gay […] Fortunately, I fell in love with Johan who didn’t only share my dream; he was determined to make it come true.”

Jane and Brendan (Photographed above) opted for a home birth, and Jane actually ended up giving birth in the shower. Monet, the photographer, had this to say about their series of birth photographs, “Jane and Brendan are a beautiful couple with a deep and powerful connection. I think you’ll see what I’m talking about in these photos. They were so passionate and so kind to each other during Jane’s birth.”

I remember the first time I held a baby (okay yes it was a long time ago) and being terrified that I was going to drop it, they’re just so tiny and delicate! This dad seems to have no such concern though.

Okay, so it’s not necessarily the baby’s father, but this is a photo of the first time Nicole Giampapa’s son Ethan met Father Christmas and I just couldn’t resist putting it in! Nicole Giampapa told the Daily Mail: “My husband and I love Christmas and are so excited to celebrate our son’s first Christmas so I searched everywhere to find the best photographer […] I’ve wanted to be a mum for as long as I can remember and Ethan is the light of our lives. He is just the sweetest, happiest baby. He thought Santa was so funny and immediately smiled.”
