15 Parenting Choices That Will Set Prince Harry Apart From The Rest Of The Royals

It’s not too long to wait before Prince Harry and Meghan become parents and Harry is already exhibiting signs that he may take a slightly different approach to parenting compared to the rest of his family…

You may be ironically crying, ‘What’s that? Prince Harry not doing something conventionally according to the Royal Family? Well, butter my parsnips that is shocking!’ But, hold your irony pants up by the suspenders of disbelief as even though Prince Harry may have played by a somewhat different set of rules to the rest of the royals, he’s consistently had the presence of a strong father figure in the form of Prince Charles throughout his life. And, with William now quite settled into fatherhood, I thought it might be interesting to look into some of the ways that Harry will stick to trend and set himself aside in his role as a father figure in comparison to his father and brother.

1.) No Video Games

Never one to shy away from controversy, Prince Harry recently took the internet by storm following his comments that the immensely popular video game Fortnite is too addictive for kids and suggested that the game should not be allowed. Regardless of your thoughts on the game, the idea of families spending more quality time together is surely not a bad thing, and this seems to be something which Harry is keen to adopt in regards of his own children.

2.) More Family Time

While I’m in no way accusing William of not spending enough time with his kids, he does take a more serious approach to royal duties which often means he travels around alone a lot more than Harry. However, with less of an interest in Royal duties, expect Harry to be never away from his kid’s side!

 

3.) Emphasis On ‘Normal’ Jobs

Now, I’m not expecting Harry’s children to be flipping burgers for their summer spending money like most of our children, however, it is important to remember that Meghan and Harry’s children will not be in direct line for the throne like William’s children. Also, with Harry having frequently exhibited leanings towards carving a more independent life for himself it is very likely that he and Meghan will be prompting their child/children to embrace a career. My money’s on Medicine, what do you think?

4.) No Royal Titles?

The Royal Family has specific rules in regards to titles, and as it stands, unless the Queen herself steps in to offer Harry and Meghan’s child the title of Prince/Princess then their child will simply (I say ‘simply’ with a pinch of salt) have the title ‘Lady (insert baby name) Mountbatten-Windsor’. However, even if the Queen were to step in and offer the titles, I would not be surprised if Meghan and Harry turned it down, a move which has happened before!

I would be surprised if they named the child ‘Insert Baby Name’ though… I mean Harry can be quite unconventional but that’d be a proper surprise!

 

5.) American Leanings

Due to Meghan being American, it is surely natural that the pair will want to keep their child connected to its cultural roots, especially with Harry being such a grounded member of the Royal Family.

 

6.) No Social Media

Harry has not only been vocal about his dislike of veritable meme-fodder video-game Fortnite, but also of social media in general. It will be likely that with a potential ban on video-games and social media that Harry takes a more classical approach to parenting.

 

7.) Teaching By Experience

More real-world life experience is something which Harry has in spades compared to William and his father. Regardless of people’s opinions on his wilder years, Harry can certainly tell his future children from a position of experience what not to do!

 

8.) Fun Focussed

One thing Harry cannot be accused of is being boring, so it’s fair to assume that more light-hearted silliness will be continued into his parenting approach, something much easier to do when your children aren’t in direct line for the title of King/Queen of England.

Even with Harry being against video-games and social media, ever since the moment that Harry and Meghan got together they have been living by their own set of rules, and that includes taking a more modern approach to their royal position and how they live their personal lives in general!

There have been recent reports that Megan and Harry have been considering raising their child as a vegan. However, the Queen is reported to have stepped in to condemn the idea, which has caused tension within the family. Will the couple stand their ground on the issue?

 

11.) A More Gender ‘Fluid’ Approach?

Though not substantiated by the couple themselves officially, a recent Vanity Fair article quoted a source close to the royal couple as saying that the couple are planning to avoid gender-stereotypes when raising baby Sussex. The couple have already opted for a gender-neutral colour for their nursery and this approach would fit in with their progressive attitudes to date.

 

12.) He’ll Be At That Kid’s Beck And Call

Any photograph of Prince Harry with children shows just how much he absolutely loves kids! And, without so much focus on royal duties as his brother he’ll have more time to be at baby Sussex’s beck and call!

Harry has a good relationship with the general public, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he makes efforts to keep baby Sussex out of the spotlight wherever possible. Obviously, in a position such as his this isn’t possible to a degree, but his values on moving away from a reliance on his standing and position would suggest the possibility of a more independent life for his child as well.

 

14.) More Choices

Again, this isn’t to suggest that William and Kate’s children are pin-holed into certain life choices; however without the weight of responsibility of being in line for the throne, and with Harry’s more forward-thinking attitude, it would be natural for him to allow baby Sussex much more choice about how they want to live their life.

And for the final time, I want to stress that this isn’t me saying that William and Kate are scruffs by any means! But watching suits back again and seeing Harry and Meghan together you cannot help but infer that baby Sussex is going to have potentially the single most immaculate wardrobe on the planet!
