NEWSFLASH: There are a lot of people on this planet. Like,  a lot of them. And out of all those people, a lot of them are famous… or have been famous at some point during their time on the planet. Of course, our attention spans being as short as they are these days (I mean, I bet half of you won’t even read this article, you’ll just look at the pictures), we only really remember those who have either won 12 Oscars or played the lead in this year’s Blockbuster hit.

Look – thousands, no, millions of people dream of becoming famous. I mean, you get loads of money, you’re always center of attention and everybody knows who you are, which are the 3 main things every narcissist dreams of. However, those who actually become famous pretty darn quickly soon realize that, the hard part isn’t becoming famous, oh no. The hard part is staying popular once you actually become famous.

Yeah, I know… who’ve thought it!? Basically, even if you do happen to become really really successful, it still doesn’t mean that your career will go on to prosper in the future… and unfortunately, the examples of some stars I have for you below only prove this to be true.

So keep on scrolling and prepare to be incredibly surprised by remembering the celebrities you cannot believe you forgot about!

1. Neve Campbell

CinemaBlend

In case you don’t remember lovely Neve here, she became famous after she played the main role of Sidney Prescott in Scream – which is a truly iconic horror movie from the ’90s. This was literally the biggest role for the young actress for several years to come, too: Never portrayed the main character in all three parts of the gruesome franchise.

However, after the end of the hooting process during the last Scream installment way back in 2000, her career was in a bonified slump. She never got any big roles in any popular movies. In fact, Neve appeared on the big screen only once back in 2011… so that she could play Sidney Prescott yet again… all because the franchise’s creators decided to release another part of Scream. Maybe she was pigeonholed just much too quickly.

2. Vanilla Ice

Medium.com

Okay, now I KNOW ya’ll still remember this guy. Vanilla Ice became the first ever rap singer whose single was at the top of the music chart. His absolutely CLASSIC song, Ice Ice Baby became iconic almost immediately and the sales of his album were extremely impressive. Alas – despite his incredible popularity, his ‘stage image’ quickly became boring for the artist himself.

As a result, he soon terminated the contract with his label and became an independent singer. Today, Vanilla Ice still sings, believe it or not, and he also stars in movies as an actor and as a music producer, which is pretty bada*s. Of course, he isn’t as famous as he once was, but the ability to decide what he wants to look like and what songs he wants to sing makes him pretty darn happy.

3. PSY

Back in 2012, the video for Gangnam Style became the single most watched video in YouTube history. After the video was released, literally the entire WORLD talked about the South Korean musician, PSY. And the entire world knew the dance to his song, too (don’t lie, you know you did). Even in European countries, the song was at the top of the music charts for months despite the fact that it was, of course, sang in Korean.

While he was still popular, PSY performed numerous concerts all around the world. Today, just 7 (Yes! 7!) years later, he still goes on tours, however, there have been no similar big hits during his career. PSY himself called Gangnam Style one of the biggest achievements of his life. There’s still time though PSY! Never say never!

4. Robert Englund

nerdist.com

Robert Englund is also a man of one solitary role… but boy oh boy, what a role that is! Freddy Kruger became his biggest achievement as well as the role he appeared as more often than any other. At the end of the 80s, he was the most popular character and he portrayed Freddy from the years 1984 to 2003.

Revenge of the Fans

On the one hand, this role made Englund incredibly popular. However, on the other hand, it didn’t allow him to demonstrate his actual acting abilities because of how the complicated makeup covered up his real face. To this day, few people can actually recognize him for the same reason.

5. Rick Moranis

San Antonio Current

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely loved Rick Moranis and to this day I still MISS HIM TERRIBLY. Anyway, in the ’80s, Rick Moranis was one of the most popular comedic actors in both the US and Canada. The movies he appeared in became super popular right away: he played the main roles in both Ghost Busters, Honey, I SHrunk the Kids, as well as other famous family comedies of the era.

There wasn’t actually any danger to his career, obviously, however, at the beginning of the ’90s, his wife tragically died of cancer. After that, Moranis made the executive decision to leave the world of acting so he could focus on raising his children… which is pretty darn admirable if you ask me.

6. Crazy Town

Junkee

The Crazy Town band was formed way back in 1995 and didn’t seem too promising… that is, of course, until they released their iconic single called Butterfly in 1999. This banger of a song appeared at the top of world music charts as well as 1.5 million copies of the album were sold. However, unfortunately for us all, all their following releases were waaaaay less successful – the singles never even appeared on any charts. Like, at all.

Billboard

The members of the band said that is was all because of the pressure from labels. At the beginning of the 2000s, they took a big ole break and their new album was released only in 2015. I mean, yeah, even though Crazy Town still exists as a band, they haven’t had any other outstanding songs. For now.

7. Hayden Christensen

Vulture

Hayden Christensen has been doing movies since he was a wee child, however, his most famous role to date is, of course, Anakin Skywalker (and if you don’t know who that is then shame on you!). Christensen portrayed this character during 2 parts of the Star Wars franchise. The much less popular parts, albeit, but its still Star Wars.

The Hollywood Reporter

There was a variety of opinions about his work while the actor was nominated for both a Golden Globe and a Saturn award… along with something called a Golden Raspberry for the worst role. Today, Hayden Christensen rarely appears in movies and when he does – it’s only usually supporting roles.

8. Bomfunk MC’s

Facebook/BomfunkMC

Bomfunk MC’s was formed by 2 DJs in 1998 and in 2000, which is when they released Freestyler. Up until today, this is probably the only song by this band that almost every person who lived in the 2000s must have heard. The musician received a few awards for the song but all of their next albums were far less successful.

The members of the band also changed several times, and the musicians took breaks and did their own ‘solo’ projects. However, in 2019, they released a new Freestyler video in order to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the song and also said that they were working on a new release. Watch this space folks!

9. Shelley Duvall

waldina.com

Shelley Duvall was a very, very promising actress: in fact, she even received a Cannes Film Festival Award for her main role in 3 Women! After that, she had very successful parts in The ShiningAnnie Hall and other movies you may recall.

drphil.com

However, back in the ’90s, Duvall started taking on a lot of supporting roles and in 2002 she stopped her movie career altogether. In 2016 she appeared on the show, Dr. Phil and admitted that she had a psychological disorder – so, so sad.

10. Rupert Grint

Pinterest

I have to tell you folks, it KILLS me to include this guy on the list, but I feel as though I have to in order to do him any justice. You see, the actors who played the main roles in Harry Potter were the highest paid actors ever before they were even teenagers. They appeared not only in movies and TV shows but were also on the covers of notebooks, backpacks, bedsheets, and other products. The last ever episode of the franchise was released waaaay back in 2011, and at that moment, Rupert Grint was a very popular actor.

TheTimes.com

However, after his time as Ron Weasley, he had a series of roles in… okay I’m gonna say it… pretty freakin’ bad movies and the industry’s interest in him quickly disappeared. He continues to do movies and TV shows, though, because there are no small parts remember! But let’s be honest, it’s also pretty tough to do anything that will ever be as big as Harry Potter.

Well, folks what do you reckon? Are there any celebrities on this list you think shouldn’t be? Are there any you think should be? Are there any you actually don’t remember at all? Let me know in the comments! And don’t forget to share this with your friends and family too! AAx
