This Drag Queen Has Been Applauded For Performing ‘Baby Shark’ For A Little Boy At One Of Her Shows
If you have kids at all or know somebody who has kids or has ever walked past a kid randomly in the street once, then you’ll be aware of the existence of the song “Baby Shark” – because chances are you accidentally heard 5 seconds of it once and it has been stuck in your head ever since.
Even if you don’t have any sort of link to a child-type-person, you’ve definitely heard it, because frankly, you cannot escape the darn thing. And as soon as you think that you have, them BAM! It sneaks back up on you and you hear it all over again.
If there was one place you’d THINK you’d be able to escape Baby Shark for at least a couple of hours is at a Drag Queen Brunch, right? Well… THINK again.
Well, the widely known hit children’s song Baby Shark certainly isn’t the typical kind of music request that Marti Gould Cummings is used to receiving during one of her Drag Brunch’s in New Jersey. However, when a 2-year-old customer was completely adorable enough to ask for the song, Cummings just couldn’t bring herself to refuse.
During last week’s standard Saturday drag brunch at the Talde restaurant in Jersey City, local drag queen Marti Gould Cummings decided to play a game of “drag roulette” with her audience, which is a game where the audience gets to “pick a bunch of songs for us to perform at random”.
Cumming admitted to NBC that yeah, there are typically a couple of kids in the audience for their drag brunch shows, but most of them prefer to stare at various types of screens while their parents are the ones who are there to enjoy their lively performances.
Last week, however, was a whole different kettle of fish. There was one toddler there who was all about the show, so when Cummings got down to ask the 2-year-old what he wanted to hear, he had a very special request indeed.
When a 2 year old comes to brunch you perform baby shark for them!!! pic.twitter.com/Ikx94mlTxO

“I asked the little boy what he wanted to see performed, because he had been paying attention when I got to their table, and he asked for ‘Baby Shark,'” said Cummings. “When a 2-year-old comes to brunch you perform baby shark for them!!!”
You’re darn-tootin’ you do!
Never wanting to disappoint any member of her audience, Cummings promptly spoke to the show’s DJ about how they could possibly make it happen.
“The DJ quickly found the song online, and we added it to the playlist for him.”
And then when the song eventually came on, Cummings did not hesitate to join the toddler in clapping and swaying along to the hit tune.
As you can clearly see, the heartwarming performance was caught on camera and then posted across all forms of social media where it received over 600,000 views… and it’s still racking those numbers up!
When it was posted, people couldn’t help but love the hilarious, but mostly just adorable scene.
SO WHOLESOME

Only a true entertainer plays to the whole crowd, no matter who or how old they are

And of course, Cummings took the time out to thank everyone for the warm response to the performance.
Thank you everyone for the love and positive messages!!! Let us all work together to spread more joy into this hectic world

However, as you can probably imagine, there were some parents out there who were not nearly as excited to hear the song Baby Shark yet again… which, in my honest opinion, is completely, utterly, 100% understandable…. don’t you think!?
This is so sweet, but now this song will never leave my head!

Adorable – but now it will be stuck in my head all day.

I knew enough to watch it with the sound off

Alas, despite the reservations of some reluctant anti-Baby Shark parents, by the looks of it it seems as though Cummings may have just found a whole new kind of audience to perform to for the show!
Omg as a parent of kids who are obsessed with this song THANK YOU!! This would have made their YEAR!!

I gotta bring the kiddo to see you now!

My twins just yelled, “I wanna go see that!” Success!

How do I sign up?!— Alex Colson (@AxColson) March 17, 2019
Of course, as with everything that is a little “different” in this world, as well as everything that gets uploaded to the often vicious world of the internet – the video itself has indeed received its fair share of criticism online… and not just because of the song choice.
Luckily, Cummings also works as a political activist and is paying absolutely no mind whatsoever to any negativity that is thrown her way.
What the hell kind of a place for brunch is this that you would bring a child with women dressed like this?
— Kim (@RubyBegoniaAK) March 16, 2019
A place that is welcoming to everyone. Where joy is spread and hate isn’t aloud through the doors.

While some folks may seem to feel that a drag show is just “no place for kids”, Cummings 100% wholeheartedly disagrees. And I am 100% here. for. it.
“Anyone who thinks drag isn’t for children is wrong,” Cummings proudly told NBC News. “Drag is expression, and children are such judgment-free beings; they don’t really care what you’re wearing, just what you’re performing.”
“It would be nice if us adults could let the child inside of us out for a little bit, so maybe we could all be a little more accepting of others ourselves.”
PREACH it, sister!
Honestly, it’s 2019 folks. And I am tired of hearing people, especially parents, throwing their negativity around at things that they aren’t comfortable with, and projecting that onto their children before their old enough to form their own freakin’ opinions. Get woke people!
What do you think folks? Do you applaud Marti Gould Cummings’ response to this adorable little 2-year-olds request? Have you ever attended a drag show yourself? If so let me know in the comments! And don’t forget to help spread the cuteness by sharing this with all your friends and family! x
