The Queen’s Former Aide Just Threw A Whole Lot Of Shade On Meghan Markle’s NYC Baby Shower
Unless you’re new here at Aunty Acid, you’ll be aware of just how obsessed I am with the British Royal Family… Sorry, NOT sorry! I don’t know what it is, I just can’t get enough of them.
Much like a lot of people can’t get enough of the Kardashians – the main difference being that unlike the Kardashians, the British Royal Family actually contribute to this world rather than being just a bunch of vapid, useless, idiotic oxygen thieves who serve no point or purpose on this planet whatsoever…
…ANYWAYYYYY.
My point is, I love them. And I also the drama that surrounds them from time to time. And now, thanks to a particular fairly new member of the royal family, there seems to be a lot more drama following the royal family around than there has been over the past couple of years, at least.
Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex.
Now, as Meghan Markle’s due date very quickly approaches, people just cannot help but wonder many, many things, such as; when is the actual due date of the baby? What gender is she having? And, of course, what the freakin’ heck are they gonna name the baby!?
And, y’know, while most people would consider a baby shower a very normal part of the whole baby celebration package, it would appear that not everyone is as excited about it as we are (I know I know, so hard to believe right?)
Ever since Meghan Markle married the ever so beloved Prince Harry last year, her trips back and forth to North America have indeed been extremely, extremely rare.
I mean it kinda makes sense right? She’s been busy with her royal duties across the pond and all… and this is exactly what she signed up for!
Which is why the people were so thrilled to hear that not so long ago, she was actually able to visit New York City in order to attend a baby shower which was being thrown in her honor.
Apparently, people of the UK aren’t quite on board with the whole “baby shower” trend yet, it having only just become somewhat popular in the last few years, whereas here in America it is an awfully common occurrence.
The shower was actually shown by a couple of Markle’s own best friends, which I can imagine she hadn’t seen for a very long time.
Which means that there’s a very good chance that Meghan didn’t actually pay for any portion of the reportedly, highly expensive baby shower.
And, y’know, when you’re friends with people like Serena Williams and Amal Clooney (yeah, I know, no biggie or anything), I’m pretty freakin’ sure that money was certainly no problem whatsoever.
Not to mention the fact that, according to various sources, the shower was held at The Mark hotel… which apparently costs (brace yourselves) $75,000 a night to stay there.
Which is absolutely fine because as I said, it was Meghan’s friends who apparently fronted the bill for the whole thing so like who is she to complain!? More importantly, how do I find friends like hers!?
Still… As previously mentioned, not everyone was completely thrilled about Meghan’s highly extravagant, ludicrously expensive baby shower.
You see, as a royal, it’s pretty much a general rule that you don’t have a shower because you’re already privileged enough to be able to access absolutely everything you’d ever possibly need for your baby. Which yeah makes total and complete sense to be fair.
One of those disapproving, misery-guts people is actually the Queen’s former press spokesman, Dickie Arbiter. Yeah, for some reason he seems to think it’s okay that he has a thing or two to say about the whole shower situation. Typical man, amiright ladies?
“Baby showers, it’s very much an American thing. We don’t do it here in the U.K. It was a bit over the top in terms of expense and the way she got there,” he explained, reports US Weekly.
“Meghan is American and she does things the American way,” he added.
…which, I mean, yeah, is accurate? She is American and it’s not like it was a secret that was kept from the royal family at any point before she married Harry, right? Is anyone else picking up on the shade being thrown in the whole “American Way” comment orrrrrr?
And as far as being privileged enough to not need gifts for your baby, it’s still pretty freakin’ nice to celebrate the fact that you have a baby on the way with your bestest and most closest friends, isn’t it? Just let the poor girl live her freakin’, privileged life already! SHEESH!
Besides, I’m 100% sure that it won’t be easy for Meghan to travel back and forth to North America again once the baby finally arrives, heck most of my friends couldn’t even make it back and forth to the store when they had their babies! So just let her have this one, okay? You do you Megs! You do you.
Okay, folks I desperately need to know your opinion on this one, because I am completely torn. Do you think it’s right that Meghan Markle attended a baby shower, or do you think that now that she has knowingly married into the British Royal Family she should honor the traditions of the UK instead? Let me know in the comments! And don’t forget to share this with your friends and family so that they can weigh in on the ‘Great Debate’ too! x
