Piers Morgan Blasts Kylie Jenner, Saying She’s Not A ‘Self-Made’ Billionaire

Yesterday, the news broke that Kylie Jenner has become the world’s youngest ever ‘self-made billionaire’ at just 21 years old. What exactly qualifies someone as ‘self-made’ is entirely debatable, but there’s certainly no arguing with the dollars and cents.

Her company, Kylie Cosmetics, turned over a whopping $360 million last year, which seems to have pushed her wealth into the billionaire territory. Countless fans around the world hailed the news, saying that Kylie was an inspiration to other young women.

However, not everyone saw things the same way. To many, it’s ridiculous that Jenner is considered a self-made billionaire, given that she comes from a very rich family, and has basically made money off lending her name to a range of cosmetics.

Someone who falls into the latter camp, and certainly didn’t pull any punches in expressing his opinion, is British TV personality Piers Morgan.

Readers in the states will probably remember Piers Morgan from his time presenting hi live show on CNN, where he succeeded the legendary Larry King. One particular episode became legendary, when he hosted the controversial conservative radio show host Alex Jones.

It was fiery, to say the least.

Nowadays, he is one of the two presenters of Good Morning Britain, a live morning talk show which goes out every weekday in the UK. He has taken up the role of the in-house curmudgeon, and is kind of like a one-man Statler & Waldorf.

As you can imagine, when the news broke about Kylie’s success, he took issue with the ‘self-made’ narrative that the media was pushing.

Morgan said of her wealth: “It’s not self-made, it’s because her sister made a sex tape.”

He is, of course, referring to the 2007 sex tape of Kim Kardashian and rapper Ray J, which is widely viewed as the catalyst for the Kardashians becoming a household name in reality TV.

As is usual, Piers picked up a lot of flack for his tweet:

However, there is always the other side who agree with him.

Jenner made her billions from Kylie Cosmetics, which she started in 2015 with a little help from her mother, Kris. However, one could argue that no one would have given two hoots about the cosmetics line, were it not for her involvement with the Kardashian family (or empire, if you prefer).

In fairness to her, Jenner seemed quite humbled and taken aback by being recognized by the magazine. She told Forbes: “I didn’t expect anything. I did not foresee the future,

“But [the recognition] feels really good. That’s a nice pat on the back.”

She continued: “Social media is an amazing platform. I have such easy access to my fans and my customers.

“Ever since I was probably 15 I’ve been obsessed with lipstick. I could never find a lip liner and a lipstick that were the perfect match. So that’s where I thought of the idea that I wanted to create my own product,

“I kept calling my mom, saying: ‘Mom, I’m so scared. Do you think it’s going to sell?’ Because I put all my money upfront. You know, it’s all my money. I put everything into this.”

Well, if we’re being honest Kylie, you probably weren’t at risk of ending up homeless or broke if your business fell flat. Congrats on your success, but let’s keep it real!

What do you think of Piers Morgan’s sentiments, folks? Agree or disagree, let us know in the comments.
