If There’s One Thing You Watch Today, Let It Be This Blind 6-Year-Old Playing ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ On The Piano

Thanks to the release of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ (meaning, of course, the Queen biopic starring Rami Malek) back in October 2018, it seems as though Queen is around more than ever. And I LOVE IT.

The best thing about this – aside from getting to hear Freddie Mercury’s incredible vocals every freakin’ time I turn on the radio – is that even though it’s been almost 28 years since Freddie Mercury tragically lost his battle with AIDS, Queen are now inspiring a whole new generation of people with their legendary music.

Meet Avett Maness, the pint-size piano prodigy who has recently performed a jaw-dropping rendition of Queen’s number 1 hit, “Bohemian Rhapsody”.

Okay so I know what you’re thinking, you’re thinking “hey, that’s great!” and also “…but er, what’s the big deal exactly?”

Well, the thing is, Avett Maness is just 6 years old. Yep, that’s right, 6! Oh and also, he’s blind. Now, are you starting to see hat the big deal is? Great… let’s continue!

Avett Maness, 6, was born blind in one eye while also being vision impaired in the other, however, as you can see from the video you can find at the bottom of this article, it has not held him back when it comes to his incredibly impressive musical skills.

“There’s really nothing he can’t play,” his proud mom, whose name is Sara Moore, told Good Morning America. “He has touched so many people’s lives.” You can totally understand how right?

Sara Moore, who is actually a mom of two and hails from Centerville, Ohio, has said that Avett has now been playing the piano since he was just a teeny baby, which is just insane. He began his epic pian journey with classics such as “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and “The Hokey Pokey”, however since mastering them has graduated to sings composed by legends such as Queen, Adele, and The Beatles, to name just a few.

“My fiance, [Tommy], is a rapper and he and Avett go into the studio and Tommy realizes Avett really enjoys complex music,” Mama Moore said. “He played ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ twice and Avett went over to the piano and just started playing it.”

Understandably, Avett has since become somewhat of a local celebrity around his town, after becoming the main characters in his mom’s children book, which is entitled “Cotton Candy Clouds”, which wonderfully teaches people how to correctly engage with those who are blind and/or visually impaired.

Not to mention the fact that he has also been putting n concerts for his entire school district and his local community, which is just so so adorable. According to Avett’s ever-supportive Mom, to this day he has played for audiences as big as 900 people. 900!! I get stage fright in front of 9 people, never mind nine-freakin’-hundred.

“When Avett was 2 months old and they told me he was blind… I could not make it home because I was crying,” Moore bravely admitted. “Something that I thought was so tragic turned out to be his greatest and most beautiful gift.”

And if you’re sat there assuming that Avett’s talents stop at just the piano, boy oh boy would you be wrong! According to his Mom, Avett also plays drums, guitar and ukulele. I mean, I never thought I’d find myself jealous of a 6-year-old, yet here I am.

Below is the original video of Avett’s incredible Bohemian Rhapsody performance. And if you’re interested in seeing a whole bunch more of amazing videos (and let’s be honest, who wouldn’t be?) you can find them all here on his own personal YouTube channel.

What did I tell you? Phenomenal.

One of the things I love most about this story is how honest Avett’s Mom Sara is about the first time she was told about Avett’s condition. Even today, when we hear that there may be something wrong with our own children’s “hardwire” so to speak, the first thing we do is panic and worry that they’ll never be able to live a normal life, do things that normal  children do, be able to fend for themselves etc etc… which is understandable.

But just look at little Avett, the very thing his Mom thought would hold him back in life, is the very thing that’s helped him to soar so high at such a young age. It’s truly inspirational and a great lesson for everybody, of any age, from any walk of life, should take the time to learn over and over again.
