Dubai Lights Up World’s Tallest Building In Honor Of NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern

The world is still reeling from the awful terror attack that took place in Christchurch last Friday, in which a far-right gunman descended upon a mosque in the New Zealand town, killing dozens of Muslims during their prayers, some as young as 3 years old.

What has been remarkable in the aftermath is how the citizens of New Zealand, a relatively small country, have come together to show solidarity in the wake of the attack.

Local school students have come to pay their respects, and even a notorious biker gang have pledged to guard their local mosque for the foreseeable future, so that their Muslim brothers and sisters can feel safe during prayer.

There has also been a great deal of praise for New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, who has served as a great example of leadership during a national crisis. Ms Ardern visited the mosque soon after the attack to console mourners, and wore a headscarf during her visit as a mark of respect.

In her other public appearances since the attack, the Prime Minister has made it clear that the country will not be divided by hate, and is instead united by love and strength in diversity. This message has been gladly appreciated, not just in the country, but around the rest of the world.

Now, the world’s tallest building has been lit up with a picture of New Zealand’s Prime Minister hugging a mourning woman following the Christchurch terror attack.

The Burj Khalifa, which stands at 828 meters tall, was illuminated with the image on Friday in the United Arab Emirates, one of the world’s wealthiest Muslim-Majority countries.

Sheik Mohammed, Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of the emirate of Dubai, shared a photo of the display on Twitter, in which he thanked Ms Ardern for her display of solidarity and support.

The word ‘peace’ was written at the top of the picture in both English and Arabic, to honor the 50 people that lost their lives in the attack.

According to a report from the MailOnline, this image was projected on the same day New Zealand had broadcast the Muslim call to prayer on national television and radio, as an act of solidarity towards their country’s Muslim community, which has been massively affected by the attack.

Many people responded to the tweet with great positivity, with one native Kiwi saying: “Our PM reflects the hearts of the New Zealand people.”

Another added: “Only if the rest of us could follow this amazing example and learn how to spread love and not hate.”

A third commented: “Thank you to His Highness the Ruler of Dubai. Thank you to the New Zealand Prime Minister for your leadership among all the people of New Zealand and to show love towards the Muslim community. Showing equality.”

It makes a huge difference for a leader to show both strength and compassion after such a horrific attack, and it’s good to see that the Prime Minister’s efforts to unite the community are being appreciated across the world.

Love and respect to Prime Minster Ardern, the Muslim community, and the country of New Zealand as a whole. You are all in our prayers at this difficult time.
