To Celebrate Her Divorce, Illinois Woman Drinks Wine And Sets Her Wedding Dress On Fire
Most people make a big song-and-dance about getting married. After inviting the whole world and his dog to see them tie the knot, they then feed them cake and endless booze, dance into the night, and of course, share as many photos of their special day as possible on social media.
However, when things don’t work out as planned, a divorce process is usually quite a secretive affair. Apart from the odd ‘divorce selfie’, which we did an article on a few weeks ago, it’s usually done on the down-low, behind closed doors.
Well, one woman from Illinois had other ideas entirely, and has decided to begin her new life with a bang by doing a photo shoot in which she sets fire to her old wedding dress.
As you can see from the picture above, Katlynn McKee looked every inch the fairy tale bride on her wedding day four years ago, with a pristine white gown, ladylike veil and bridal bouquet – the whole 9 yards. But here we are four years later, and Katlynn can be found wading through muddy water in that very same wedding dress, smiling at the camera as it soaks.
In what we can only assume was a cathartic experience, Katlynn took a pair of scissors to the dress, then stripped to her undies before setting the $1,500 dress alight with gasoline. Grinning from ear to ear, Katlynn looked as happy as she did on the day she said ‘I do’.
So, what was is that brought her to this point? Well, Katlynn and her ex-husband had been in a relationship for 10 years and married for four. The couple have a young daughter together, and decided to divorce after growing apart. but reportedly still remain amicable.
Despite the impression that you might have picked up from this fiery photo shoot, the couple are apparently still on good terms. In fact, her former hubby even volunteered to partake in the photo shoot, however Katlynn knew it was something she had to do alone.
Katlynn told the New York Post:
“My relationship wasn’t a good one, so it was a relief to finally be free. We’d been together since I was 16, and married for four years. We grew apart.”
“I did a bit of research but all the ideas were my own and it was exactly the way I wanted to do it. It was like my rebellion against the marriage, my way of saying I’m free.”
“We went out to this little area with mud and water and I had a bottle of wine and a gas canister in a basket.”
“I cracked open the wine, took it off and then set it on fire. I watched it burn while I drank the wine. It was very liberating, exciting and empowering. It actually ended up being quite sexy because I stripped down to my underwear.”
An attention-seeking stunt, almost certainly, but here we are, giving her attention. What do you folks think of what Katlynn did here? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
