This Seattle Store Keeps The Community Laughing With Its Constantly-Changing Sign
A regular convenience store in Seattle, WA, that has become internet-famous for the regularly-updated sign outside its premises.
The store used to be an auto repair shop, and the sign featured special offers and promotions. In 2005, it was converted to a convenience store, but the sign was simply too good to throw away, so they decided to have fun with it. Ever since, they’ve put up a new humorous message each week, to give the local community a smile as they go about their day.
Here’s 20 of our favorites. Be warned – there’s some corny ones in here! I’m a sucker for a ‘dad joke’.
1. The doting husband
I think my hubby Walt might have been behind this one.
2. A saucy one
This is about as risque as they get. After all, there are kids around!
3. TODAY ONLY! COME ON DOWN!
Well, if this ain’t the truest thing I’ve ever heard. It seems to apply to sofas as well…
4. If the shoe fits…
Some pun-tastic self-defense advice here. Now excuse me while I try to deal with the nightmarish image of being attacked by a mob of clowns.
5. Crystal clear
I’m quite sure I don’t know what they were getting at with this one! Moving on very quickly…
6. Check yourself before you wreck yourself
I’ve always hated when people use the phrase ‘reality check’. It’s never followed by anything good!
7. That’s what it’s all about
I’ve just had flashbacks of doing the hokey pokey at countless birthdays as a kid. Good times.
8. But what if…?
I don’t think this is very likely, do you? How would this even be enforced? Who are you to tell me not to ask hypothetical questions?
9. Still got it
I think those of us ladies of ‘a certain’ age will relate to this one.
10. Time to step up
“I’m hungry”
“Hi, hungry, nice to meet you. I’m Greg — and I know I can never replace your “real” dad, but I want you to know that I’ll always be there for you.”
11. A cheesy slogan
I agree, folks. We’re too lazy with the cheese these days, we really are. Sad!
12. Spidey senses tingling
Same here. And I also ended up having to put a whole day’s wages into the swear jar.
13. Edumacation
I thought this was a pretty clever turn of phrase, then I noticed the spelling mistake in ‘education’. Still, the sentiment is there.
14. I’m getting a little antsy
I simply can’t argue with the science behind this one.
15. The tension is unbearable
Another great example of corny wordplay. What is it about puns that I can’t resist?!
16. Into thin air
It’s always good to get a bit of space whenever you can.
17. I found this very moving
18. Do not violate the nap
Naps used to be punishment when I was a kid, but I’d do anything for one right now.
19. Over the hump
Agree, big time. Oh, and the last day of the weekend isn’t great either, because you’re dreading going to work. And I’m usually hungover on the Saturday. Wait a minute, do I enjoy anything about my week?!
20. Save me a plate
I’m sure the moms and aunts among you will relate to this one. It doesn’t matter how old they are – if there’s food available, you can bet your bottom dollar that they’ll be there.
Which is your favorite, folks? Let us know in the comments!
