Tekashi69 pleads guilty to nine crimes
Controversial rapper Tekashi69 has pleaded guilty to a number of federal charges and has admitted he is part of a gang.
The Brooklyn rapper is cooperating with federal prosecutors after pleading guilty to nine crimes and saying he joined a violent New York City gang and helped others try to kill a rival gang member.
The 22-year-old rapper, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, admitted to nine charges, including racketeering conspiracy, firearms offences and drug trafficking. He has reportedly also said he will help prosecutors as part of a plea deal.
He has 15.5 million followers on Instagram. His album Day69: Graduation Day was among the top-sellers on iTunes following its February release.
6ix9ine had a multiplatinum hit song, Fefe, with Nicki Minaj, which peaked at No 3 on the pop charts, and Stoopid, featuring the incarcerated rapper Bobby Shmurda.
NBC New York reports that court documents state he will cooperate with officials “against multiple violent people associated with the same criminal enterprise of which he admits, or will soon apparently admit, being a member.”
The rapper told the court he had joined the Nine Trey Gangsters, a set of the United Blood Nation street gang, in 2017. According to Page Six, the court documents reveal he also confessed to hiring someone to shoot a rival rapper.
He could face a mandatory minimum 47 years in prison – however, as he has made a plea deal it’s likely 6ix9ine will face a lesser sentence.
