Teen With Austism Was Rejected By Every Employer, So He Started His Own Successful Business Instead
In this current climate, it can be hard to find a job. News outlets may be reporting that the employment rate has grown, however, in real life it’s hard to find the evidence of this. There is one young man, though, who has found an ingenious way around this, and you’ll be amazed at what he’s doing right now!
More than a year ago today, a young man named Clay Lewis was struggling to find a job. SO what did he do? Did he sit around a mope about it? Did he complain about how unfair life was? Oh no. Rather than waiting around for one to just come and land in his lap, he decided to get up, get out and do it for himself.
So what is he doing now? Well, for the past two years, he has been cleaning his neighbors’ bins, and he has now managed to transform his hobby into a fully-fledged business and currently has a list of 70 clients who pay him to actually clean their wheelie bins.
And now, since setting up ‘Clay’s Bin Cleaning’ the 16-year-old entrepreneur says he has made more than $6000 – by charging his loyal customers a mere $10 per clean bin.
The business has been so successful, in fact, that Clay now has to employ another three whole people he knows from his high school in order to help him out with his ever-growing workload.
While speaking to the Mail, the youngster who is from Brisbane, Australia, cheekily joked:
“I just love getting cash.”
However, more than just over a year ago it was a completely different story for young Clay, who was finding it literally almost impossible to find himself a little after school job.
And his Mom, Laura Lewis said:
“Because he speaks differently than other people, employers have unfair assumptions based on first impressions. If Clay had a job interview today, I can guarantee you he won’t get a job. They don’t know he has a great work ethic, he is very loyal and very diligent. If people are given chances, their self-confidence will improve.”
Laura, the proud Mom herself says she wants her son Clay to become more independent in order to be able to care for himself so that he won’t always have to rely on the state for help in the future.
And this young entrepreneur is already giving back to society, as he offers to clean the bins belonging to charities for free.
One of Clay’s regulars (and he has many), Zoe Lawton, has absolutely praised him for doing a ‘fantastic job every time’.
She herself said: “He’s a great inspiration for anyone – not just teenagers but for people like myself.”
His Mom noted that it’s incredibly sad that it can be so very difficult for children who have disabilities, such as Clay, to be able to easily get a job.
She then went on to say: “Families are so busy and spend their days working and there are so many job opportunities for children with disabilities.
“Dog walking, water plants, mowing lawns and cleaning pools are jobs any busy family would pay someone to do,
“I encourage those parents to help their kids find a niche and just set up a Facebook page.”
According to recent reports, Clay isn’t sure what he’s going to properly do after he graduated High School, however, he has said he does plan to use some of his money to go on a lovely holiday to Dubai in order to watch the F1 Grand Prix, which he is a huge fan of.
Well done Clay and keep up the amazing work!
What do you think about Clay’s efforts folks? It’s always nice to hear such inspiring stories from members of the younger generation, especially ones who face certain challeneges daily through out their lives.
