PETA Rages At ‘Toy Story 4’ Trailer Because Bo Peep Is Holding A Herding Crook

As I’m sure you’ve noticed over the last few years, it’s literally impossible to say or do anything online without someone, somewhere, getting massively offended, over… something. Last week, the trailer for the much-anticipated Toy Story 4 was released online, prompting a whole lot of excitement from eager fans of the franchise.

A family-friendly CGI movie about toys – who could possibly have a problem with that?! Well, as it turns out, PETA could.

The always-controversial animal rights organization PETA launched an ad campaign this week, demanding that the movie’s animators Pixar edit out a sheep-herding crook from the new Toy Story film, claiming that the object promotes animal cruelty.

It doesn’t take much to offend these guys, does it?

Activists at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) saw the crook as a betrayal of Pixar’s attempt to give the character a tough “modern” update, claiming in their tweet that the sheep-herding instrument she carries is “still problematic.”

“A badass Bo Peep would likely bop the shearers, not the sheep,” according to PETA’s Lauren Thomasson.

Their apparent problem with the crook is that it “promotes exploiting gentle sheep for their wool.”

PETA have a long-standing habit of ‘calling things out’, but even hardcore vegans and animal rights activists might struggle to get behind this campaign.

“We know that kind people everywhere would sing your praises – and Bo Peep’s, too – with this change,” PETA’s letter said.

The social media reaction was pretty unanimous, with most Twitter users mocking PETA for their overzealous stance on the issue. One person pointed out that in the image PETA used for the ad, Bo Peep is standing next to the film’s main character Woody, who is literally wearing a leather hat and a cowhide vest:

PETA have often spoken out on the ‘cruelty’ of shearing sheep and lambs. Of course, if you’ve spent time on a farm, or researched the topic for more than a couple of minutes, you’ll know that the practice is mostly painless for the sheep, and stops them from becoming overgrown and rotten, like this poor guy:

This is something that a number of Twitter users were keen to point out.

PETA, you do know that domesticated sheep don't shed their wool naturally and can have horrible health problems if not sheared, right?

Even fans of PETA were keen to point out how silly the campaign was: “PETA gave me a purpose back in my life and I will forever love you, but this is just ridiculous,” said one person.

“I stand up for the PETA name everyday against ridiculous people who mock it, but this makes it even harder. Like I can’t even argue.”
