Little Girl Can’t Sleep After EarthquakeUntil She Is Comforted By The Sweet Family Pitbull
They say that you should never judge a book by its cover, and this applies to dogs, too. When you think of a 100-pound pitbull named ‘Fury’, you no doubt have a certain image in your head – maybe one of aggression or danger. However, in reality, what we have is one of the sweetest dogs known to man, snuggling up to his best bud, a human toddler by the name of Ady.
Ady and her family live in Alaska and, recently experienced an earthquake that measured a 7.0 on the Richter scale, which is strong enough to displace buildings from their foundations, break through underground pipes, and tear cracks in the earth.
Needless to say, this was a very traumatic event for the family particularly little Ady, who won’t have experienced anything remotely like that before. Ady had trouble sleeping after the event. She was afraid to close her eyes and night and needed her “best friend and bodyguard” nearby in order to get any rest. That bodyguard, of course, was Fury, who has been by her side for her whole life.
Ady’s father Kyle Leary posted a video from his daughter’s crib camera to Facebook last month showing Ady and Fury bedding down for the night. The video has now been viewed a whopping 43 MILLION times with over 770,000 shares! He said of the clip:
“Cutest video EVER. Just A girl tucking in her 100lbs Pitbull best friend and bodyguard for life. If you raise them with love, they only show love.”
It really is unbelievably cute, as Ady careful tucks the both of them in, making sure that Fury is covered by the blanket for a nice warm sleep. Watch the video below:
In his caption, Kyle is no doubt referring to the reputation pitbulls have as being aggressive animals, who are a danger around children. However, he makes the point that nurture is the key to raising a gentle and friendly canine – not their breed.
Of course, there has been some of backlash, but many of those who viewed the video (even those who were skeptical of letting a toddler sleep with a pit bull) found it heartwarming, even if they would be hesitant to let their child do the same. Nevertheless, most commenters seemed to draw connections between Ady and Fury and their own children and pets.
After receiving hundreds of comments, Kyle Leary shared the backstory along with another photo:
“This is Adalynn Leary tucking in Fury Leary, her best friend and bodyguard since birth who is a 100+pound blue nose pitbull. We live in Palmer, Alaska and recently got hit hard by a 7.0 earthquake and we’ve had over 5,000 aftershocks. Since then Ady has been having severe anxiety and trouble sleeping. The only way she’ll sleep is if Fury is in there with her to protect and ease her anxiety. Normally he sleeps on the floor next to her bed but that night she called him up to cuddle him.”
It’s clear from watching the video that little Ady is in no danger from Fury, who lets the little girl crawl over him, tuck him in, and continuously move a blanket around, all with perfect patience. He looks so content to be there comforting his little buddy.
When it comes to dogs and children, everyone’s situation is different. Depending on your dog’s temperament, it may not be advisable to do this. However, Ady’s parents obviously know their dog and child well, and made the right call here. I’m glad they shared the cuteness with the rest of us!
