30+ Hilarious Gravestones Of People Who Got The Last Laugh

happy black and white GIF

There are only two sure things in this life; Death, and Taxes. I know that may sound miserable as heck, but just because it sounds it doesn’t mean it has to be! There’s always time for laughter, even long after you’ve shuffled off of this mortal coil… and all these people below PROVE it!

Don’t believe me? Well have a scroll down and check it out for yourself!

1. That’s One Damn Good Nap

Ah Joan Hackett, my spirit animal. Maybe she wasn’t a fan of visitors or maybe she was just a huge fan of sleeping, all I can say is… well, I hope this one actually is a joke, or Joan will be getting a pretty nasty surprise when she eventually wakes up.

As much as I like sleep, I’m definitely not this committed to it.

2. Spanks Til I Die

And now I am cursing the universe for not placing me in the Spanks family tree. Not 100% sure if this was done on purpose or if the family was so overcome with grief that they didn’t think it through properly… but I am 100& sure that either way, it is hilarious.

Whatever Arthur and his wife got up to behind closed doors is their own business!

3. I FEEL U BRO

This one is short, simple and straight to the point, and that’s why I love it! Although, at this point in time I’m not sure who it sucks to be more – this guy, or the people who still have to live in this current world.

Sorry I got a bit gloomy there. Give me a pass, it is Monday after all…

4. That’s Bread Funny

Here’s another case of someone embracing their amusing surname, and riding the joke into the afterlife. John, God rest his soul, saw the opportunity and he took it with both hands, and I am so so glad he did. Greatest pun I have ever seen on a gravestone, period.

In other news, I have a sudden and strong urge for fresh-baked bread.

5. Carefree Un-living.

I think I would have liked Lola. She seems as laid back in death as she probably was in life. As the old saying goes; Que sera, sera!

Also, it looked like Lola was 80 or 81 when she passed – that’s a pretty “good innings,” as they say in England.

Come to think of it… weren’t those Nirvana lyrics? Maybe she was a fan…

6. The Ultimate “I Told You So!”

I gotta tell you, folks, I am 100% here for this level of pettiness. I only hope that one day I can get my petty-a*s self to this level… MAJESTIC!

This was rumored to be the inscription on the grave of Spike Milligan, but that turned out not to be true. However, someone decided to go with it, and I’m so glad they did. Who says death means you have to lose your sense of humor?

7. True Blue To The End

This can’t be real, can it?! If it is, this person stood up so much for what they believe in, that they’ve taken their party allegiance to the grave – and beyond!

They obviously didn’t wanna take any risks of being visited by the wrong kind of people… even in death. To be honest, I think it’s sad that people aren’t willing to ‘reach across the aisle’ while they’re here.

8. Ned Flanders… Is That You?

Okay so this one is pretty damn adorable – this family made sure their secret language was imprinted forever on this earth, and it is bloody beautiful… If not a little odd. But hey, I think we could always do with a some oddness in this world.

However, I can’t help but notice that it does sound an awful lot like the kind of vernacular that Ned Flanders from The Simpsons would use.

9. Simply Puuuuurfect

Hang on a second… there’s such a thing as too many cats!? I don’t believe it, and I’m sure Susan didn’t either. On the other hand, this is one of the prettiest gravestones I’ve ever seen, and I’m sure Susan would love it.

I love it when people embrace what they are – even if it’s a ‘crazy cat lady’!

10. Telling It Like It Is

Wow, what a powerful statement. This veteran clearly hasn’t forgotten what he went through after Vietnam, when his country wouldn’t accept him for who he was.

Ohhhh, guys, the salt is REAL with this one! Talk about holding up an eternal middle finger… what an amazing thing to have imprinted as your legacy forever. 100% respect for you “A Gay Vietnam Veteran”.

11. I Mean… They’re Not Wrong

Although I can’t say I’ve ever seen anybody laughing at a gravestone (then again, I’ve never seen gravestones quite as hilarious as these ones in person before) but the great thing about this one is that it’s hilarious and true. And er… it’s also kinda ominous.

Whoever this grave belongs to – give us a few more years, at least!

12. Bet You Wish You’d Have Listened Now!

Well, whoever this poor woman’s family is I hope they’ve learned their lesson… and on the bright side at least she’ll never have to be on her sore feet ever again… right? Shoe pain is no joke!

Come to think of it, I hope this was actually what she wanted on her headstone, and it’s not just the family being mean…

13. It’s Never Too Late To Rep Yo’self

This one genuinely made me chuckle, especially the “92% Positive eBay Feedback” part.

I know I know, by looking at the date on this one you can tell it’s not actually a real gravestone… or maybe the owner is just super super organized. But either way, as a marketing tool it’s pretty darn impressive and has definitely earned it’s place on this list… 10/10!

14. Butt seriously, folks…

Thank you Butt, thank you for this most wonderful gift you have left us, this gift of eternal laughter. From this day I shall always think of you and smile. Job well done.

I mean, I don’t know if you realized how funny your name would look on this nice headstone, but as long as we’re smiling, that’s the important thing, right?

15. Well, I Found Myh New Motto

This is a very old saying, and to be honest, truer words hath never been spoken. Okay so maybe it’s a little dismal to say that life always sucks, but the “YOLO” message comes across quite clearly here.

Oh, and it’s been shaped into a smiley face, in defiance of the somberness of death. What’s not to love about that?

16. You Can’t Escape Stupid

I’m right there with you Micah, I see them too… EVERYWHERE. Now, if you’re any good at math you’ll know that Micha sadly passed away at the tender age of 16.

While this is obviously a complete tragedy, it looks like he was a little jokester who wanted to carry laughter with him into the afterlife, and I love that!

17. Walter The Wild Card

This looks like the headstone of a guy who didn’t adhere to the maxim of ‘growing old gracefully’, and that makes me like him a lot.

Uncle Walter certainly sounds like a character, but I think he had the right idea when it came to spending his money on good times. I mean, after all, one thing’s for sure – you can’t take it with you. Cheers!

18. Hidden Messages

I have SO many questions about this one. Was it Johns idea? Was it his friend’s idea? Did his family realize what he’d done? How long did it take for anyone to notice? Whatever the answer may be, this is the perfect balance between beautiful and hilarious.

John sounds like he would have been a good time, but I wouldn’t want to get on the wrong side of him.

19. “I’ll Take It To My Grave!”

You know when somebody uses phrases like “Over my body!”  or “I’ll take it to my grave!”… well, Kay over here took it to a whole new level when she passed. She actually meant it, and then, in one last act of grace, left the recipe for her famous fudge as an epitaph on her own gravestone. Troll level: ascended.

That fudge sounds really good, too…

20. You’re Way Too Close, Buddy.

Another person who isn’t going to let death stop them from having a laugh.

You can tell some thought went into this one… and I’m so glad it did! Possibly the last thing you would expect to find on a gravestone but when you think about it, it’s kinda true… just think of all those body parts you walk over when you’re visiting a cemetery! CREEPY.

21. A legend in his time

For those of you who didn’t know, Mel Blanc was the voice actor who voiced almost all of your childhood favorites. This included Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Tweety Bird, Sylvester the Cat, Yosemite Sam, Foghorn Leghorn, Marvin the Martian, Pepé Le Pew, Speedy Gonzales, Wile E. Coyote, and Road Runner, among others.

Thank you so much, Mr. Blanc, for giving so much joy to multiple generations. You will be missed.

22. Let down one last time

I have to say, this here is a person after my own heart. After all, we all have to go eventually, so why not go out in style?

It may not be a pyramid, but this is still a very nice, very tasteful headstone, which will also let the world know that this person has a great sense of humor.

23. You creeped out yet?

Here’s someone who felt the need to take their penchant for all things spooky into the next life, with a Ouija board headstone.

I can imagine that some of the heavily-religious types visiting other headstones might have been a little perturbed by this, but hey – I guess you have to honor the deceased by giving them what they wanted.

24. Saw that coming

William Shakespeare once said that “brevity is the soul of wit,” and looking at this gravestone, it’s hard to argue with that sentiment.

One thing that does catch my eye, though, is that there doesn’t seem to be any year of death on this stone. We already know that this guy had a mischievous sense of humor, so did he just want to keep people guessing?

25. The king of TV

Mervyn Griffin was one of the biggest players in the TV game for generations, hosting his own talk show from 1965 until 1986, and also coming up with the concept for the hugely popular game shows Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune.

He lived, breathed, and slept TV, so it’s no wonder that he chose to honor the medium in his highly-amusing headstone. Rest in peace, Mervyn.

26. How ’bout that traffic?

I absolutely love it when a married couple have the same grave – to me, it’s the ultimate symbol of commitment.

And when they chose to use that joint headstone to crack jokes about the local traffic from the afterlife, that just takes it to another level entirely.

Here’s to both of the Ivisons, who are no doubt cracking jokes together up in Heaven.

27. The more you know

One of the things that makes death so difficult to accept for us puny mortals is that, when all is said and done, we have no idea what happens to us or our loved ones after we leave this Earth.

Well, this person does, and they’re just a little bit smug about it. Well played to whoever thought this one up.

28. Farewell to a legend

Rodney Dangerfield was an icon of the comedy game, and nothing short of a national treasure. He had a particular penchant for self-deprecating humor in his routines, and this didn’t stop when he passed, as demonstrated by the line “there goes the neighborhood” on his stone.

I’m sure his new ‘neighbors’ were more than happy to have a legend of comedy alongside them.

29. The cookies must go on

This is similar to the headstone we had earlier in the piece, which featured Kay’s famous fudge recipe. In this instance, the recipe is for a more seasonal treat, which is perfect, because we’re just coming up to the big day.

Rest in peace, mom. May your famous Christmas cookies delight future generations of your family for many years to come.

30. Sibling rivalry

Anyone who has ever raised, or even looked after, multiple little girls will know that what’s detailed on this headstone is no mean feat.

I think it’s really sweet that this person decided to dedicate their final resting place to their little girls. It will no doubt remind them of happy times in childhood, even if there were disputes over bathroom space! Siblings always find something to bicker about.

31. Deadpan humor

Whoever picked this headstone out obviously has a pretty macabre sense of humor, to say the least. Having said that, it does actually look pretty stylish, in its own funky and unique kind of way.

In fact, it looks like something you’d get for your bedroom from the IKEA catalogue. I doubt they’re planning to venture into the headstone market, though.

32. Turn up the gain

I’ve been trying to figure this one out – I guess it either means that he was a wealthy man, and left behind heirs, or he was unbearable to be around, and that’s the ‘gain’ that he’ referring to.

Either way, Mr. Dermid obviously had a sense of humor, and wanted people to know that years after he’d gone. Here we are in 2018 talking about it, so mission accomplished I guess!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this gallery, folks. I think it’s heartening that so many people can face death with a smile!
