20 Photos That Show The Madness The Polar Vortex Caused

The recent Polar Vortex that has swept across America really didn’t have ANY mercy and has left a lot of madness in its wake. Most of us look forward to snowfall and our towns being transformed into a real-life winter wonderland. However, I think most of America is sick of snow by now!

The infamous Polar Vortex started on January 30th in some areas of the US and has left chaotic disaster in practically everyone’s home. If you managed to avoid this Polar Vortex, count yourself lucky! Here’s just some of the destruction it caused…

The Polar Vortex left this person’s house literally encased in a shell of ice after a blizzard in Ohio. This Polar Vortex knows no limits to its power, it must have been pretty scary to be stuck in there when this blizzard was happening!

2.) Freezing rain

If you thought snow storms were bad enough, the Polar Vortex decided to bring freezing rain down on these poor people too! In this case, the rain froze the second it hit this car’s roof.

Now, this is pretty scary. They are so lucky that the front window didn’t do the same if they were sat in it! The Polar Vortex really caused a lot of havoc and damage.

4.) Windows freezing on the INSIDE in Minnesota

It got so cold in Minnesota during the Polar Vortex that windows were completely freezing over from the inside. This is just unfair, they couldn’t even look outside to see and enjoy the winter wonderland…

5.) Furnace exhaust producing an icicle

To have an idea of how cold it was, this FURNACE exhaust was instantly producing an icicle just as it was turned on, also it looks like its practically floating in midair! The Polar Vortex was magic too…

6.) Flash-frozen fire hydrant

The water in this fire hydrant tried to escape as it flooded but the Polar Vortex had other ideas, it instantly froze it instead, there’s no escape! I cannot even imagine how cold it must have been for water to INSTANTLY freeze like this…

7.) Byrant Park fountain frozen

Even the stunning Byrant Park fountain in New York was no match for this all-powerful Polar Vortex. I still have no idea how running water can freeze, I thought it was practically impossible!

This Polar Vortex is officially a savage. Even fire doors weren’t safe, it would just transform them into ice doors instead.

I have no idea how water even got there, let alone FREEZE! This is getting a little too intrusive for my liking…did people in the US just not charge their phones or laptops during the Polar Vortex? It seems like it was impossible to!

10.) Rain froze on this car WHILE it was being driven

How did this happen?! Even MOVING vehicles couldn’t escape being frozen by this intense Polar Vortex. Imagine the rain falling on your car and freezing even with the engine turned on. It looks like a pretty cool ice pool though!

Windows freezing on the inside freaks me out a little, it’s invasive and as if the Polar Vortex was coming for people, that’s pretty scary. At least being frozen in makes an excuse not to go outside.

The Polar Vortex was LITERALLY knocking on people’s doors and wanting in. I definitely would not be answering this one.

Imagine just heading out to work and opening the door to this. I think I would just give up and walk back into the house and go to bed. It’s not worth the cold, dark and snowy hassle. Thankfully it’s all over now!

14.) Frozen trees in Chicago

This is like something out of a fairytale, the Polar Vortex can be beautiful sometimes! I would love to walk through these trees but I would have been terrified that a huge chunk of ice would fall on me!

This looks like icy honeycomb! Maybe the Polar Vortex brought snow bees with it too.

The Polar Vortex created SOME beautiful things at least. This snowy spider web is just stunning and shows the fantastic beauty of nature.

Yeah, there is no way people are going to be able to get into this house. It’s so strange how this how is covered in ice and the one behind it is just chilling, completely ice free!

Ice storms?! This Polar Vortex really is pulling all the stops out of the bag with this one. I think everyone is glad that this is over…

20.) You might not want to eat outside

This Polar Vortex is not only freezing everyone’s drinks but also their food too, great! So, maybe don’t eat lunch out on the patio in Chicago during the Polar Vortex.

Well, thank the lord that the Polar Vortex is over, right?! It’s nice to reminisce at how crazy the US has been for the past few weeks, although, it might not be something they want to remember! I hope they are warmer now…they deserve it. Until next year (hopefully not) goodbye, Polar Vortex!
